- Federal drug agents have busted a company that sold mushroom
spores over the Internet.
They say buyers could use the spores to grow psychedelic
"magic" mushrooms.
The spores aren't illegal, but the mushrooms are.
Federal prosecutor Doug Whalley said it would be like
selling the ingredients to make methamphetamine.
The Fanaticus company operated out of a home near Lake
Quinault and sold the spores in a solution in a syringe.
Buyers inject the spores into a jar to grow mushrooms.
The company had worldwide sales at ten dollars per syringe.
At a court hearing yesterday, Robert McPherson, said he was
earning $30,000 a year from his mail-order mushroom business.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and postal inspectors
have been investigating Fanaticus for years.
