Hi,
still on my quest of chosing the best method and gathering your experience, I hope this question has not already been asked. If such was the case, please pardon me and don't pay attention.
In your experiments, did you try both method or did you go with one and sticked to it? And if you tried both, what made you chose one over the other?

I'm still considering both although the shotgun fc seems far easier and I like the idea of having to care for the little guys. Fanning and moisting them myself sounds like creating a bound of some sort.

I only tried the shotgun FC. Since then I have moved on to an indoor green house setup using an ultrasonic humidifier. It's much easier to maintain and to keep the RH and temp. stable IMO.

Beauty Seeker

Thanks. What kind of green house do you use? something you made or something you found. I have one like on the picture I use to grow plants from seeds but I think it's too small for shrooms.

Thats not really an indoor greenhouse, more like a overpriced plastic box with a clear top with some holes.

Yeah, that's what it actually is...

The lid might be too short to fruit shrooms in any case. I just use a giant wooden spread with a mister above my setup. (like the ones you see watering your veggies at the grocery store) PICS SOON
Ok, so it's not really a fruiting "chamber" of sorts but it sure as hell works for bulk grows.
Chloroform and a dish towel, yeah that will keep them quiet....

I bought it at walmart last fall. It's basically a wire frame with four shelves that is covered by a plastic cover. It stands about five feet tall x one and a half feet deep x three feet wide. I am sure that there is something similar on the net at a garden supply sight. I paid about $50.00. Then I purchased a small ultrasonic humidifier on line from Target.com. The model that I purchased is for a child's room and is shaped like an elephant with the mist discharge coming from the trunk, which made it very easy to attach a hose to to supply a cool mist to the green house. I simply unzip the opening twice a day and fan foe FAE. so far it's been working great.

When combining the two, are you just adding the freshairhumidifier to the rest of the set up or replacing the aerators on the bottom of the poor mans pod with the fresh air humidifier?  Also, are you adding water to the substrate as you do for the poor mans pod set up, or just wetting it and allowing the fresh air humidifier to add the rest of the humidity?

I've not done this before ...

fattrout

yes, i just added the tropic aire unit to replace the aerators on the bottom of the poor mans pod, you can buy it here.

in the bottom of the pod i use geolite (hydroton) instead of perlite. i just lightly spray the geolite now and then to keep it wet.
