What is the shortest time from sterilization to inoculation (cool down time)
that you have had success at?

Is 6 hours too short?

With my first innoc I was impatient so I took the pressure cooker outside and let it cool off in the snow. One hour later I took out the jars and injected them. No contams and excellent results (for a newbie) about 70 dried grams. So if the PC is cool to the touch it should be fine.

Well no snow here, but I guess I could clear a shelf off in the fridge....
I don't have a PC so if I just leave the lid on my pot tightly closed in the fridge would that be ok?

Why not? It's just a small space of cool air but I might be tempted to put a plastic bag over the pot since there's a lot growing on in a fridge with all that food.

let them cool natural. A large swing in temp can cause unwanted air exchange in your jar, which can overcome the filter particularly when dry verm is used as a filter.

Honestly whats the rush.  your not going to gain anything. patience is key in this hoby.


once your jars are cool to the touch, they are fine to inoculate.

If your impatient, prepare your jars at night and once you turn of your cooker, go to bed and inoculate in the morning.

As always, proper sterile procedures, use a glovebox
