I was wondering if it might be possible to rehydrate cakes by injecting them with sterile water instead of dunking them. This would seem to be a much more contam resistant solution if it worked.

Any thoughts/experiences???

I have tried this and it works.

I've read about it on other sites, especialy "thenook.org", though I seem to have no problems with dunking, a much lower tech approach.

Hey there, when ever ive dunked my cakes its been plain old tap water then off to the fridge for the nite then next day into the terrerium, geuse it depends if u have good tap watter but if its a real worrie use spring or distiled water. A fully clolnised cake seems to be able fight off nasties

agreed, once colonized i have found that a good amount of contams can't break into the cakes... but nothin beats good old mineral water for a dunk!!! lol -nuets baby!!!!

People will oblige to drink in order for us to survive to our daily life.

I don't even wanna kno. Dunking rehydrates cakes better IMO. But if you wan't to go through the trouble of boiling water and steralizing syringes every time you need to rehydrate a cake thats fine by me.

Just dunk your cakes in clean tap water, or bottled spring water if your water isnt drinking quality.

To many people are far to scared about contamination during fruiting and can end up making things worth. Fully colinised substrate is pretty resistant to contamination.
Some bacteria may grow on the surface of your cake during the dunk, however you can easily wash that off before and after the dunk with a good rinse under the tap.

Ive always just dunked in a pot of tap water fully submerged for 24 hours. No problems.

Because we know that the tap water (running water) is part of indoor plumbing, which became available in the late 19th century and common in the mid-20th century.
