Innoculation through polyfil?

If innoculating substrate that is canned with a poly-fill filter, do you just shove the needle through the poly-fill?  I know this sounds kinda stupid, but it just seems like you might poke the filter through and have it land in your substrate.

So do it like this, yes.
I suggest making a small hole for the syringe to fit through and inoculate though it. Before and after the inoculation seal the hole with a piece of masking tape.

Hmm... assuming you add the masking tape before pressure cooking, will any of the glue melt into the substrate, or is everything just dandy?  Would you be able to slide the  needle down the edge of the hole containing the poly-fil without messing anything up.  The substrate in question is popcorn, if that helps.

Thanks for the reply though, I appreciate it.

No.

If you are careful, then yes.

I prefer the other option though.

I inject through polyfill - no problems.
I suppose the thing to do is make up some dummy jars so that you can try it out without wasting spores or substrate.
I was woried that I had packed too much polyfill into the lids that I use, but it seems to work fine and there is no chance of the polyfill slipping.

But I can't see a problem with Anno's suggestion either.
