My son is thinking about doing his scince fair project on cloning myceliums.  I'm a social worker, so science is not my thing, but I'm doing all the research I can to help him.  We plan to order two growing kits and and cut them in half.  we are going to use organic and inorganic growth methods and of course one as our control with plain water.  After growing we then plan to cut a sample to clone to see whichdoes best the organic inorganic or the control with just water.  What we need to know is what mushroom kit do you think will work best for us to conduct the experiment, we will start in Nov/Dec and we live in Alabama (to give you an idea about the weather, but we will be growing inside)and what organic and inorganic stuff do you recommend for out kits.  DO you think this is a good project idea?  If you have any suggestions we would really appreciate hearing from you.

I am not sure what you mean with this. With plain water?

As for the mushroom species, the easiest to fruit for begiinners are warm fruiting Pleurotus ostreatus  strains  or Pleurotus pulmonarius .

Hey my name is Chris and i just became a member of this site. Beautiful down in Alabama been there on vacation. I live in Edmonton Canada. I think your idea for a project is very good and your son would achieve a good mark. I have done this before. I am currently in gr 12. Um plain water do you mean out of a tap? You should use sterlized water(grocery store) But you should also do this indoors.
