BRF Question

Hi all. This is my first post, and while it might seem like common sense, I want to be sure before I proceed.

I'm having trouble finding BRF in my area. The brown rice itself is very abundant of course, just not the flour. Now, I got a BAD ASS food processer for christmas, it can do everything (as a matter of fact, it's doing my taxes as I type this). Can I use just any box of plain ol' brown rice and render it to a flour consistency and use this in my "cake mix"? Or should I look for a certain style?

And yes, I know the BRF is easily available on the web, but after paying shipping it's like $12 a pound. I can get 10 pounds of brown rice at the supermarket for that price.

Also, I've decided to start with one spore syringe of "Treasure Coast" from SporeWorks for my first go. Should be good for 5 jars shouldn't it?

Thoughts?

Helo

I'm pretty sure you can use any old Brown Rice, but go for the Organic stuff. You can just buy some Organic Brown Rice and turn it into BRF. Easy as pie.

The one Syringe should be good for 5 jars, if it's a 10cc syringe. If that's the case, you may have some spore solution left over in fact. Even if you inject each jar with 1.5cc's, that will still leave you with approx. 2.5cc's (Give or take 1cc).

Good Luck and Welcome Benjamin. Hope you get off on the right foot.   ^_^

Well, looks like I'll have to innoculate 6 then. Aww shucks . Just hope I have enough room in my FC. I got the 20 qt Sterlite container with the lime green handles that you see in alot of the pics around here. As for the jars, I was lucky enough to pick up a used lab-grade incubater a couple years ago. It's small but big enough to hold 10 jars I'd say. I'm figuring on incubating the "Treasure Coast" jars at 78.

moorhS

yea you can use any brown rice and use that handy dandy food processor and turn that shit to flour my friend GL :)

Helo

Haha, nice. Six is a nice even number anyway... MUHAHA   Sounds like you are well on your way.

Incubating at 78F is good, because the mycelium will produce some heat. Most will say 80F though, and I am currently Incubating 6 jars at 80F with great results. You want about 86F I believe, so 78F plus the heat produced by the mycelium should be more than fine. However, if the weather in your area is cold, I'd say Incubate at 80F, just in case.

Good Luck again Benjamin Linus, can't wait to hear about your progress. Also, i'm pretty sure a few of the pro's around here have grown Treasure Coast's before. They may have a few tips for you.   ^_^

Thanks guys. And yeah, I'd love to make a specific post and update from start to finish (with pics), just wonder how safe that is?

Helo

It's safe. Just make a Photobucket account or something similar using a weird name. I don't think they ask for your address or anything. Take a look around this site. Lots of us take pics and post them. Just don't have anything in the pictures that would tell anyone who or where you are. And don't use that account for any other type of pictures <like pics of you and your family at a BBQ for instance, lol> Do that, and you should be fine, just like everyone else who posts pics on this site.

Plus, we are all a bunch of Photo Junkies...   ^_^

I was thinking more along the lines of tracking through ISP. I'm not to familiar with using proxies and whatnot. Is that a concern?

lun0s

If you're concerned about your ISP tracking you through your DNS requests you could set your browser(or router) to use openDNS(www.opendns.com) that way instead of you using your ISPs DNS servers you're going to another source. I use openDNS myself. But not for hiding what I do hehe.

As far as posting pics.. I use Photobucket.  In my case it is completly private.  No one can see anything other than what I have put up here in the forum.  My account is not open to the public.  I haven't had problems with it.  Just get your picture into your 'album' on photobucket and then copy the IMG code and paste it in your post and wha-la pic show up.

Helo

I do the same thing as Shroomzer. And honestly...I don't think "The Man" is all that concerned with my small setup.   ^_^
