Nuking vs. PCing Casing
« on: October 25, 2010, 05:30:26 PM »

Hey everyone,
I about a week away from casing my popcorn and I was wondering which way I should go with my casing. Last time I microwaved my casing and I got the Green!!! But then again, I let my casing get alittle to warm for comfort when incubating it, so this could have increased my contamination chances. Should I microwave or PC, also for how long and in what? Thanks for the input guys. Hope Life Is Good

I always mix up a bunch in a large bowl, dump it into non-stick bread loaf pans, cover with aluminum foil and pasteurize in the oven.. 200 degrees for an hour or so.

i mix peat/verm---60/40. add the correct amount of H2O. cover the glass bowl with plastic wrap and nuke for 5-6 minutes. i check temp with a food thermometer (gotta get it up to 200 degrees) and let cool. after it is cool, lysol the shit out of my kitchen (wait a few minutes) then case.
