help / stopped fruiting ?
« on: March 02, 2007, 03:16:59 PM »

Hello, I'm obviously new to the site. I need some input on a situation.

I saw the beginning of pins about 7 days ago. Most of the pinners kind of, but not quite, stuck at a size about two days ago and haven't moved too much. Should I be concerned, or just wait it out for some more growth? I don't have any setup for metrics on humidity or temp, but room temp is 70-75. At first I was concerned about over-dry, but then reading more from and o s s & o e r i c it seems to stress avoiding oversaturation more.

Here's what I've got now.

The temp around the case needs to be 95% humid or higher. For something small like that you can use a plastic bag like in the pf tek for simple minds Fruiting section.

it's not obvious from the picture (took it out for a better shot to demo the height contrast), but it's stored in a plastic container that's retaining moisture on the walls, so I assume the humidity is high enough since it's not evaporating. that's ~100% humidity right?

any other comments?

If thats a PF tek cake and he cased it like that, there might be no more than what he has.
the cake has already been triggered to fruit.
I see a ton more casing then what is need for that. (that is if it's a PF tek cake)
No myc growth in the outer edges of the tray.
You should see some myc growth all over or at least in spots of that thing before it begins to fruit (I.M.E)
To me it looks like you have to much casing for that cake.
What I mean by that is :
your cake is in the center and has started to fruit and the myc is confused because you have all that casing around it and your cake wants to fruit.
thats my opinion.
P.S
Invest in a cheap temp/humdidity gauge to at least get a idea what your temps and humidity is at.

it's not a pf-tek. it's a grain based mycobag ~ about a 1lb of fully inoculated substrate. (pf-tek uses half pint jars, ~8oz, so my cake's probably about twice that size. put it this way, two of them didn't fit in the container, but i did not want to try breaking them apart for fear of contamination possibilities, thus also the bag strategy) you might be right,  the container might be too big, maybe i'll try increasing cake/case ratio next time around. do you think i left'm in the bag too long (none pinned in the bag) or that i didn't cover the top of the cake enough so it fruited immediately?

definitely gonna get a gauge....

other than those, any other suggestions?

thanks for all your input
