this ts will be my first grow, but i would like to jump straight into bulk growing.I have been reseaching cakes and bulk growing for a couple of months now and just recieved my spores b+,ecuador, and puerto rican.Tell me your opinion am i making a mistake by jumping straight into bulk. And which strain should i try 1st i hear B+ is fairly easy to grow.

being your 1st grow I'd start out with what makes you feel comfortable.
I'd suggest pf cakes but, I jumped in doing cased grains.
Keep it simple man,get a tek down and go from there.

I've never had any real success with cakes.  You'll learn the basics such as humidity control, air exchange, aseptic technique for substrate preparation etc. while doing cakes (or at least I did).  My suggestion would be to go for the bulk right off the bat.  Use this to start your grains    http://www.shroomery.org/9030/Docs-Wild-Bird-Seed-Tek .  Incubate in a double tub setup (should you choose to even use an incubator---many people don't and they aren't truly necessary unless your house is really cold).  Then use this to spawn to bulk substrate   http://www.shroomery.org/8397/Horse-poo-substrate-preparation.  Then I use a modification of a monotub setup with an aquarium pump/ hepa filter combo for my substrate container.  It works quite well and didn't cost much.  I think Baph has great success using a Martha closet.  Depends on how much space you have.  Follow those teks to the letter and you'll be o.k.  Good luck with your project.

ok whats the difrence between cow poop and horse poop

axis

#4
ew! ew! pick me ! I know the answer!

one comes from a cow and the other comes from a horse.

LOL

my understanding is that horse poop contains a lot of seeds from grasses and weeds that they eat because of their digestive system doesn't clean it all out.

cows have two stomachs to digest those grasses etc., therefore less chance of seeds that might sprout up while you are trying to grow prize plants.

anyone, correct me if I'm wrong

I have heard that the very best poo poo to use for fertilizer is "Turkey Poop" (shit)
but I don't know exactly why.

google search for animal fertilizers or organics and see what you can find.

A Cow has 4 Stomachs...but otherwise you are correct. I have researched this online, and cow manuer is rich in enzymes from the metobolic break down of the grass.

Horses eat mostly hay, with some wheat grains when available to the farmer. The carbohydrate breakdown from dry grains is significantly more than the oat, and grass mixtures a cow eats. Plus the cows intestional track adds some great enzymes....so I have read.

I pesonally have cased in a mixture of Shrimp Compost, Cow Manuer Compost, Peat Moss, Lime stone additive, and Perlite available at my local garden store. I have had great sucess placing the compost in a deep baking pan, pasturizing for 2 hours at 400F and then letting cool to case a few crumbled 1/2 cakes.

I have done both cakes, and casing from cakes, and I can't believe how much better a casing works. from a half cake cased I get 3-4x the yeild compaired to a dunked and rolled cake.

casings will always yeild more than the dunk and roll.

HoodyFrankz

Yes. It is wonderful the difference in yeild. I have the most amazing cluster ready to be picked today....when I get my act together I will post pics. I don't know why casing isn't recommened for newbies....I found the whole process easy, just time consuming and you have extremely clean during the innoculation...after that it's pretty easy.

"I don't know why casing isn't recommened for newbies"

Mainly cause it's just another step to add to the process which can be a contam risk for them if not done right.

What did you use for casing?
