i have heard of using whole rye seeds and water in a sterilized jar to colonize. i heard that this method would make a spreadable colonization, that you would be able to spread your colonized mycelium over a larger surface.

the question is can you use rye seed and water to make a spreadable substrate, and does it work better?

Yes, you can use Rye Berries.
It makes a excellent substrate.
Grains colonize faster than BRF cakes.  -_-
