How do you know when your grain is ready to case?

Baphom3t

When the jars are 100% colonized.

Ok! Let me rephrase that. How do I know when the jars are 100% colonized? Every piece of grain is completely covered with mycelium or every grain has mycelium growing on it?

Baphom3t

Well captshroom, you should know I would say "show a pic"  ^_^ ^_^
Visual depiction speaks volumes in understanding the question at hand.

How long have they been going?
You want something like this,

They have been going for 9 days, how long do yours usually take? But your right, a picture says it all. I don't think mine are quite ready yet.
Thanks

Are you doing quart or pint,or 1/2 pint jars?
Depending on the size of the jar will make a differance.
Quart jars can take 3-5 weeks to colonize 100%.(multipore innoc.)
All other times for specific jar sizes will fall accordingly to size of the jars.

9 days isn't enough for quart jars if that's what you got goin'(assuming multi-spore innoc.)
I'm not sure of the jar size. That would help with a time frame.

Thanks Baph. I have quart jars. I guess I will wait another couple weeks. I'm dying to try my new FC. Just wondering...is colonization quicker in smaller jars?

Baphom3t

Maybe, but I have only stuck with quart jars :)
I think it's irrelavant though.
Size of spawn determines size of possible fruiting area
9 days with Qt. jars!!!
I'd wait at least another 2 weeks before thinking they are ready unless they take off with a fury.
Keep us posted!!!
