Just seeing my first patches of white on my jars. I've been keeping the temps slightly above 70 degrees. From what I've read this may slow the speed but help keep those contams at bay. Ill take some pics once some significant growth appears. Hope life is good

Not sure about the strain, but when the veil breaks on the mushroom, its ripe for the picking

Cultivation / Knocked Up
October 12, 2010, 11:55:34 AM
I'm happy to say I just knocked up 7 quart jars and 4 pint jars of corn today. I took a break from growing over the summer so this is my first grow in awhile. Its actually my first time doing corn as well. I knocked up 4 w/ Ban Hua Thanon, 4 w/ Tak Mountain, and 3 w/ African Transki (ralphster's sotm). I'm very excited about this grow because its my first time with corn and with Ban Hua Thanon, which I have heard good things. As soon as these babies start doing something I will def. post pics.

Once you put your little buddies into the FC you need FAE. What I would do is put some holes right above your lvl of perlite. If you are worried about keeping your humidity high enjoy, you can always manually fan then to get that FAE.

fungiguy,
Yea FAE is pretty necessary. What kind of fruiting chamber do you have?

inked 23,
Sometimes it can take awhile for mycelium to show its face, especially with brf/verm tek. I would say give it some more time. A pic would def help.

Xanaar,

Before you're fruiting, the mycelium should be all white. A blue color can form from bruising it. When they start fruiting, you should def. stay away from any green mold or a slimy yellow looking mold. I would personally just post a pic on this website. I'm sure someone will be willing to help you out.
You should def. wait till they are fully grown. When the veil breaks, you know they are done.

Nactore,

From my knowledge, all mushrooms love grains. If you check the archives, there are many different guides for the grain method. Good luck!

parkside,
One of the only negatives is that it increases your chances of contamination. So be extra sterile! My very first casing got the green meanie. The only other thing I can think of is that it takes a couple of days for the mycelium be ready for the fruiting chamber, which really, compared to the bigger yield you get out of it, doesn't really matter. Good luck with your choice. You should post some pics!

Mushroomman,

I haven't personally done rye seed, but if you check old posts and such, most of the pros of this website would say that rye seed is a much better method. You will get much bigger yields out of it. Though Brf/verm is a beginners method. Good Luck with your choice!
