Title: grain substrate temperature
Post by: randyoflaramie on June 16, 2013, 02:05:55 PM
I had used a kit to grow and it worked. I ordered grain in bags using the same kit and they never work.  They never completely get the mycelium to grow on all the grain.  Can someone give me some clues as to why?

The heater has since broke.  What temperature do I want for substrate growth?  I have tried using approx. 76 degrees is that right?

Have you tried crumbling up the contents of the bag to disperse the already colonized grains? I would do that first. Optimum growth is in the low 80's, but that does increase chances of contams if you did not sterilize completely.
