Title: Amount of air exchange while colonizing
Post by: Trips509 on April 17, 2008, 12:40:04 PM
I am starting a new bach of grains and was wondering something. Right now my jars have about a 1/4" hole on top with polyfill. It works all right and have had no problems with it.
I was thinking though if I make the hole bigger or maybe add another hole, there would be a little more gas exchange and maybe make the jars colonize faster. Does this sound like it would work or would it just increase the chance of contamination? Or is there any other way I could increase the amount of gas exchange while still keeping the jars contam. free?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Just leave it as it is.
I use polyfil in my jars lids. With no problems.
Use the old saying "if it's not broke don't fix it"
adding another hole or messing with the exsisting hole will only increase the chance of contam.
