Cultivation / Re: My chamber design. Need some feedback

Got the hygrometer. Was running at 80% with no pearlite. Put about an inch and a half of pearlite back in. RH is now up to about 92% and temp is holding at 77 degrees. Have quite a bit of FAE so it looks good. Humidifier will run for about two days before being refilled. now to see if it will sustain good performance.

Thank you sir. Didn't sound right to me either. As I said, it seems the more I try to learn the more conflicting information I get. The internet is a wonderful/terrible place for info. I am sure I will have many more questions. Thanks

Cultivation / Light during colonization?

The more i read the more confused I get. I have now read that light on your jars during colonization speeds fruiting. Is this right? Will it slow the colonization process?

Still waiting on the hygrometer. Should be here within the week I hope. Yes I do have 2 half inch vent holes on the back corners. I removed the pearlite and am going with just the humidifier. When I shine a flashlight into the FC I can see just the slightest hint of fog.

Cultivation / My chamber design. Need some feedback
November 19, 2010, 10:34:03 AM
I am a newbie. I love mushrooms of all types and have recently decided to grow my own. I have a couple cakes ready and am about to have my first birthday. I got this design from The Vaults of Erowid and wondered if anyone else had anything comparable that could answer some questions for me before I go and kill my first batch of babies. Any input would be greatly appreciated for, as i said, I am a newbie. My main concern is airborne water droplets and condensation. Should I put the humidifier on a timer? Should it run constantly? Should I be able to visibly see ANY vapor coming from the feed line to the chamber? [/img]

The Vaults of Erowid have some ideas that may help. I thought they had some very useful information. I am a newbie and just built a semi automated fruiting chamber with an ultrasonic humidifier. I am waiting to receive a new hygrometer before i birth my very first cake. I feel like an expectant father preparing the babies room. Gotta be just right. lol

Here is my set up. I started with the pearlite then found Erowids design for an ultrasonic set up (with some minor changes). I do plan on adding a larger terrarium(shelf type)and or more tubs soon but I have cakes ready now and am anxious to have a birthday. I have ordered a couple hygrometers on ebay but they could be weeks. Think I may remove the pearlite and put the humidifier on a timer. I am trying to be as automated as possible, I sometimes must leave for a day or two [/img]

Ok, I built this terrarium with a ultrasonic humidifier. I stepped it down until you could just barely see vapor coming from the line into the terrarium. I am building a lot of condensation on the walls. Is that too much moisture? Is there a good way, besides the crappy inaccurate hygrometers that I have found, to tell if my RH is correct? I also have pearlite in the bottom. Is that overkill?
