Title: How important is vermiculite under my circumstances
Post by: g fung on September 21, 2008, 06:05:48 AM
So I am typically all about skipping any step that I can get away with. My method is to start with birdseed jars and then case in composted poo and verm. If this is my method do I really need vermiculite mixed into my cake? My thinking is that it is wasting space that could be used for nutrients and for more mycelium which would then translate into quicker stronger colonization of the casing. Am I right?

You don't want to skip any steps.
They are proven TEK's for a reason.
With a casing you want a non-nutritive material and verm fits that description.
Beings you are using poo I take it you are planning a bulk grow.
Poo has nutes and is not a casing material.
There are other materials you can use as casing besides verm.
