Cultivation / fruiting
April 01, 2005, 08:04:36 AM
The first half of the culitvation process went smoothly without any incidents. To date there is still on contams but there is no fruiting either. The jars seem to be fully colonized. As of now I'm working with South American and Creeper. I have them in total darkness for 16 hrs a day with 8 hrs of light. The temp is a constant 70 degrees F. They have been in this enviroment for almost 2 weeks. Am I being impacient or should I try to alter the temp and light exposure? Thank you.

when casing should you case your substrate after incubation when the jar is fully colinated or after pinning? Thank you.

PF - Tek / Best casing method
March 23, 2005, 06:14:05 PM
I've read numerous casing methods on various sites and I was just wondering if there is anyone reading this forum has a particular method / substrate / feedback that may lend to a begginer. I've got the basics down concerning PF tek but I'm now interested in expanding my yields. Thank you.

PF - Tek / which jar is best
March 21, 2005, 08:19:49 PM
I recently used two types of canning jars on my first attempt of cultivation. The first being a wide mouth 1/2 pint and the second a regular full pint canning jar. They both seem to have worked equally as good. But then agian I'm a rookie and what the hell do I know? Out of all the experienced growers reading this post what size and type of jars have worked best for you. I guess my choices are full pint, half pint wide mouth or half pint regular. Thank you.

Cultivation / difference between substrates
March 01, 2005, 09:08:38 PM
Is there really a difference between substrates?
Are some more reliable then others?
Do some ward of contaminants better?
Do some actually produce stronger mushrooms?

General topics / Spore bank
February 20, 2005, 05:16:28 PM
I recently ordered some strains from Spore101. Although the initial order was wrong they made every effort to correct the situation. Within minutes of receiving my first order the second order with the right contents were mailed and on their way. I highly recomend them. Although I havent yet tried to cultivate any of the spores from the syringes I bought I'm sure there wont be a problem considering their level of professionalism. Just thought you should know.

Cultivation / brown rice
February 20, 2005, 12:06:11 PM
I was unable to find BRF so I'll be using a newly purchased coffee grinder to make my own. Do you happen to have any idea how fine I should ground the brown rice. The coffee maker has serveral choices. I thought the finest I could get it the better but I'm not sure about that so I thought I'd ask an expert. Thank you.

Cultivation / 1st attempt
February 19, 2005, 01:56:06 PM
I'm about to attempt my first inoculation. I've read all there is to read and now its time to put it to the test. Before I do, I have a few questions to ask. What substrate is best suited for Brazilian spores? What is the best ratio / mix for the desired substrate? What is the desired temp during incubation for Brazilian spores? Other then speeding up the incubation time is there any other benefits to a polyfill cap? During incubation, is total darkness required or some light? Sorry to drill you with so many questions, I just want my first experience to be a good one.

Cultivation / substrates and perfered ranges
February 16, 2005, 01:21:03 AM
I'll be working with several different strains over the next 2 months or so and I want to know if you happend to know the best substrates and caseing materials to use for each. On top of that I wanted to also know if you knew the best/desirable temperature and humidity ranges each strain perfers 1. Brazilian 2.South American 3.Creeper 4. Threasure coast

Cultivation / Syringe
February 15, 2005, 07:43:48 PM
How long and what is the best way to keep a syringe. I place an order with a company that had a 4 syringe minimum and I'm guessing I wont be using all of the right away. Thank you.

PF - Tek / Flow Hood
February 15, 2005, 09:16:04 AM
I'm interested in making a home version of a flood hood for obvisous reasons. I would greatly appreciate any pointers anyone may have. I've purchased a squirrel blower that displaces about 1000 cfm it has a 120v power supply and pushes 1.4 hourse power. 1. How big of a box should I make for it? 2. How big of a HEPA filter should I also buy. Other then making it air tight, is there any other details or suggestions you might have. I'll be working in a room that is about 12 ft. x 12 ft. I do plan on using a medical dust mask and air sanitizer spray and rubber gloves ontop of everything else. 3. Do you think this is enough to keep it as clean as possible. 4. When is the most opportune time during the whole method of inoculation / what ever for germs to really be a problem. 5. Do you recomend using polyfil for the jars to help speed up the process, or not. IF so how would I keep it from getting saturated from moisture within the pressure cooker. 6. Buying  Substrates premade from manufactures, good Idea or bad? 7. Can you suggest a mushroom strain that would be a good one for a beginer that has an above average potency ( I dont like to have my mind controled but I love a good body buzz and visuals ). 9. How do you store and keep spore syringes to be used at a later date? 10. Any blue prints or pictures on hand that I can use as a refrence to make my flow hood

PF - Tek / Spore bank of choice
February 13, 2005, 09:36:21 PM
Money isnt an issue. I'm a firm beliver that you get what you pay for. Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone out there might beable to suggest a few spore banks that have proven to be worthy of my hard earned money. Also, I can across a site today that sold ready to go presterlized substrate jars waiting to be inoculated. Does anyone have any expericence with these jars? If so whats your feelings on them. I just harvested my first flush of Golden Teachers from a grow kit I ordered, they were pretty decent but I was wondering if anyone might suggest a differnt strain that has proven to be a little more potent.

Cultivation / Grouping
February 12, 2005, 07:44:39 AM
I've recently aquired 3 different strains of mushroom grow kits. I've noticed that they all have the same generic directions for "best results". My first attempt at cultivation was very successful. Anyhow, I'm curious to know if its alright to place different strains of mushrooms in the same terrarium during the fruiting phase, or should I keep them isolated? If each had its own requirement for desired temp and humidity ranges I wouldn't have to ask this question but they all seem to perfer the same conditions, so I just figured it would be easier to have them in one container then in three. I'm open to any and all suggestions. The strains in question are Mexican, Thai Pink Buffalo and Ecuadorian. Would you happen to know by any chance the best / desired temp and humidity levels that each of these may desire. As of now I've been able to keep a consistant 77 degrees F and 90% humidity.

Cultivation / Newbie with a question
February 11, 2005, 07:19:39 PM
I see in all the pictures posted on almost every web site people growing in large tupperware containers. After all the serching I've done, I've only been able to come up with suggestions on how to cultivate in canning jar quantities.  Does anyone know the methods of how to go about increasing the yield size of a crop?
