I have had the same problem in the past after reusing old lids as after a couple times the plating starts to come off and they begin to rust. I have had no problems with small amounts of rust affecting colonization or subsequent growth. Just make absolutely sure that it is definitely rust and not some type of contamination. I wouldn't waste the time or effort to transfer them as long as they don't smell funny.

Why waste money on Lysol? Common household bleach is cheap, easy and available everywhere. A mix of 10:1 chlorine bleach will kill any type of fungus, mold or bacteria. Lysol contains a lot of unnecessary chemicals that you might not want infused in you cakes, casing or shrooms whereas chlorine is in the water you drink on a daily basis.

Once they are dried they are like any other dried vegetable or fruit. They will keep almost indefinitely in any container. I've stored mine in a small Rubbermaid storage container in the vegetable bin in the fridge. If you're really concerned you can chop them up and mix them in honey or any type of potent, drinkable alcohol that you enjoy.

Any suggestions on a completely reliable supplier for Cube spore syringes? I keep getting completely different opinions from the different forums.
