Cultivation / I need help please....
July 23, 2010, 04:30:13 AM
Hey forum, I live in mauritius, a tiny island off the coast of south africa, and there is no vermiculite or peat moss on this island, at all, have searched,

my question is, what can i use as a casing layer for my colonised rye seed, can i use wood chippings, or ph balanced soil.. and what is the point of casing, is it to supply moisture to the rye thats underneath or what.

I can get hold of wood chippings, soil and a wierd stuff called Bagasse

Bagasse is the fibrous residue remaining after sugarcane or sorghum stalks are crushed to extract their juice.[1] It is currently used as a biofuel and as a renewable resource in the manufacture of pulp and paper products and building materials.
