Post by: ark on October 19, 2010, 02:55:58 AM

I put the best of today's/yesterdays mushroom finds on display- http://www5.snapfish.com/snapfish/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=2326542027/a=4089303027_4089303027/

Panaeolus_cinctulus or Panaeolus subbalteatus by another name. Dark black spoor print. If those are the ones in the corner that you said was staining the paper black, your identification may be correct.

Tricholomopsis platyphyllaalso known as Megacollybia platyphylla has a white spoor print. Pluteus cervinus and other Pluteus sp. have a deep pink spoor print which eventually stains the gills. Both are edible, though platyphylla must be button stage to be palatable. The older specimens may be sickening if one ignores the rotten radish-like taste and actually eats them.
