Title: using a cool spray humidifier??
Post by: Cameltom on January 04, 2009, 06:10:25 AM
i was thinking of using this technique.
one simply because i already have one, and second that i noticed that no one had perlite in there FC. if so it wouldn't be as messy.
but i also noticed that usually that there only used with bigger systems.
so i was wondering if using it on one large tote would be sufficient or would it be overkill????
one more thing would i have to use a substrait like perlite??
does any one now were i could look at some pics of this setup??
Thank you all

i used a large tote with perlite at the bottom, it worked fine for me. This is my first time so I went with what was easiest, and cheapest.

Well never seen that type of humidifier used I have seen just the vapor humidifiers used that produce steam. I also just use perlite. I have 3 18 gallon contains that I bought and just added 2 inches of Perlite and drilled a shit ton of holes along the bottom and they work great for me had 7 picks already and all nice size mushies.

sufficient or would it be overkill?

-Could be both. But you could rig it to fit two fc's easy. And yes, their usually used for larger fc's like a martha setup or multiple fc's. You can find teks at the shroomery.

one more thing would i have to use a substrait like perlite??

-Perlite is not a substrate, its a volcanic rock that holds water and helps evaporation to maintain RH.

Doe's your humidifier have a timer?

thats funny i have read in more than one place that a cool air humidifer is what u want to use

- Cool mists are good, but in any case all humidifier's do the same things.

so i should use it with the humidifer if the RH is too low right ???
why would it need a timer??? in case it makes the RH to high ??
so i shouldnt have it running all day???
should i put the hose on the bottom of the tote or like 5 inches up??
thanks for the help

-Maintaining RH.

- 1-5 inches from the bottom is fine.

If I felt any of this as a burden trust me.....you wouldn't hear from me.

>I could use a cheesy pool time right 15Min increments??

-Ive never heard of that, im an intermatic man.  I'd say depending on the size of your tub maybe 10-15 min every hour or so, it also depends on what you plan on using for FAE.

Coffee filter's would do the job tho I would recommend polyfill (polyfiber fill) you can find it in the pet section at a meijer/walmart/pet store haha. Its only a couple bucks for a bag.

I use a humidifier :)
But I don't use tubs.
If the humidifier produces a nice fog then you are good to use it.
If your tub is not that big 10 - 15 mins may saturate the cakes and cause more problems than it's worth.
I'd say 5 - 10 mins for any size tub and then that may be pushing it.
I use a indoor greenhouse and only run mine for 15 mins every hr or 2,depending on the ambient RH in the house and the season ;)
