Title: Is cake neccesary?
Post by: rileysawka on July 14, 2005, 02:24:29 PM
Just wondering if you have to make cakes out of the rice and vermiculite and then pressure cook it and all that. Or is it possible to grow them just by putting a BRF and Vericulite mix into a container and then injecting the spores into it.

The reason you pressure cook it is to sterilize the substrate and jar. Actually you dont even need to pressure cook the jars you can boil in a coverd pot with a towel/rag at the bottom (as to not break the jars) with about 1 1/2" to 2" of water im not too sure on the time you let it boil so check out  The Shroomery (http://www.shroomery.org) and search for MMGG -Magic Mushroom Grow Guide - it has the boiling tek rather than the pressure cooker tek.
