Title: How much spores for innoculation
Post by: lordoftheshroomz on January 11, 2005, 03:05:27 PM
I was wondering if there were such things as over innoculation or under innoculation. i recently just used my syringe to innoculate about 1/4 cc in each of the four holes in eaqch jar, some were more some might have been less. how will this affect the yield and colonization rate?

The yield: not at all.

The colonization rate to that extent, that you want a even inoculation, so from every inoculation stripe the mycelium spreads left and right and into the middle.
If you inoculate for instance only at 2 points, at each side of the jar, then the mycelium has to spread double the distance as if it would need to spread if you inoculate it on 4 points. And this takes longer.

Other than that, there is not much difference.
