I got everything i was going to get on my checklist except 1 thing... the surgical mask (i heard that u cant use the dust mask).  I was wondering who uses this and is it very neccassary?  if I sterilize my whole room(bath) and use the polyfil lid, can i get away with not wearing 1?

Alsp (off topic) the perlite in a FC, after its used for a grow how much, if any, times can u reuse it?  THX!

When the cakes r fully colinized... Do u put them right into ure case or leave them in the jar til they start to pin a little?im going to case bout 6 cakes and im not sure.

Off topic-  Where would u reccomend getting rye (store)?  Does it have to be a certain kind.  Also, when getting WBS, can just a generic version ok cuz i seen a gourment 1 (looked like it had more white millet and less sunflower s).
Where can i find crushed oyster shells and ground calcium carbonate, and is this really necessary or reccomended?

As i plan on doing both cakes and grains (for my 1st time... i know i  might be pushing it a bit) but when i case the cakes.. in the spaces between the cakes or spaces to the wall, can i fill those in with the grain substrate, crush a cake, or just leave it??  whats the best to get the biggest yeild?

How is this done??  I know with the cakes u just hold them in water for 12 hrs but a cake is portable and a big case with case mix on top of it is different.  Do u take the case mix off or just spray down with water... do u add case mix??

I decided to do half cakes and half rye (half of the syringe... again this is my first time) and casing everything and even maybe using 1 rye jar to inuculate more jars. TY for ure input and wish me luck lol.. still waiting on my spores.

well to start, id like to know what do u recommend(prefer) using the WBS or rye to make the jars and y? as with the casing i read at the shroomery that u can use  Jiffy Mix from wal mart.. how is that?  Also, do u put the case mix at the bottom or just vermucilte(spelling mb) and its supposed to be damo, right? 

also when putting perlite at the base of the fc, is it neccesary to put dry perlite over the soaked perlite?  And is the perlite enought as far as RH if u got 2/3 cases in the FC... lets say almost no room in the fc(rubbermaid bin) TY for ure answers and advice... much appritiated.

Thailand - Lipa Yai...has any1 have any experiance with this strain? I know its a cube so it should be like any other but is it a lil more difficult as  i read some are. do u have to cold shock it? anything like this would be helpful.

off topic- when making prints, do u recommend making multiple prints from 1 strain?

Is a 8 qt pressure cooker good?  if im getting qt jars, then i should be able to fit like 7 in there, right? (mostly is the height affected when smaller.) here's 1 im looking at... cheap at walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6371940

So i just seen this on this site, making the polyfil filter (easy) u just put in the grains cover with lid, then aluminum and throw in th PC (while keeping the cotton looking filter on the whole time in the PC)??  Then just put the syringe through the hole (is 1 in the middle enought?) and apply 1-2cc of the spores?  Is thst enogth for the jar? what size jar do u reccomend, 1 qt?

OK lol, after all my questions i think im having a change of mind of what tek im going to use for my first time... so here come many more lol srry.

I have been reading over this forum (posts going way back) and decided not to use the pf way.  Well maybe 1/2... but bottom line i owuld like to case.

1. Ive seen here that you can make a casing using the cakes (alligned and covered in 60% peat, 30% vermiculite and 10% limestone flour ).  Now my Q's is, how does this compare to using grains (feild result wise).  doesthe cake case produce the same  as a grain case?  Is 1 faster? (myc forms faster in the grains, correct??)  Is throwing the mix in the microwave enought or do you PC it after?

2. when fruiting, all that u need, as far as humidity, is whats on top?  u just cover the case (meaning u dont have to put anything wet under it?) and keep the humidity at 95+?

3.  For a beginner, 1st timer,  What method would u reccomend?? casing the cakes or just going with the grains?  Also, which case mix (IYO) produces the best?  is the 1 i posted above good?

4.  Last Q. what size of a pressure cooker is ideal for grain jars? (again i dont want to spend much so whats the smallest thats ideal lol)

R the mushrooms more potent when eaten fresh rather than dried? is the feelling more intesived?  also what is the best specimen u all had for 1. Visuals and the best for 2. Body?

off topic- is B+, Blue meanie, Golden teacher, etc. all cubensise?  or should i start with just like brazilian on somthing?  im plan on getting them from Ralphsterspores.?

Can you dunk the cake for 12hr (cold water in the fridge) before ure first fruiting, after the incubation period or only after a flush??  Also, when u dunk is it ok just to put a  1/2 pint cake into a little bigger jar?

OFF TOPIC-  When fruting, can u put as many cakes as u'd like into ure chamber as long as u got space.  I read that as u need at least 2 inches between cakes, is that ok?

Hello all, I've been reading over the forum and doing a little research and I have a few questions for experienced growers...

1.  I'd like my 1st specimen to grow fairly fast (I plan on getting them from Ralphsterspores and ive heard Cambodian or Brazilian r good for beginners)  what would you recommend??

2.  How long do they usually take (at 85) and as I'm in Chi how does outside temp affect them (as winter is coming up and i might do it in the basement)??

3.  How much does say 1 syringe produce on average in a standard (1 pt or 1/2 pt) jar (oz.,  half oz, QP,  etc...) or what size would u recommend ??  I plan on getting 4 syringes with 2 different types (should i get them all the same and do they expire or anything like that??)

4.  What is the best (most potent) type of spore you've had from past experiences?  Has any1 had the "Golden Teacher" or the "B+"??  How are the "Brazilians"??

5.  I plan to use the PF-tek method, following Utube vids... Its says i dont need a PC as i could just boil (steam) them.  What is ure opinion on this and what are the advatages of a PC?

6.  I was thinking about getting the grow buddy software,  does any1 have that and is it worth getting?

7.  Ive seen 2 different methods,  the jars with the lids (4 holes and tape) and just normal drinking glasses where they were topred with 2 layers or aluminum foil.  Which method is better and more succesful?
