PF - Tek / Birthing early
March 03, 2013, 11:54:28 PM
So it has been 2 months since inoculation of brf 1 pint jars. This seems like an excessively long time to go without added moisture and whatnot, so I have the idea to take the ones closest(85% or +) and wash the uncolonized myc off and dunk. I've done a little research saying that as long as it's close to fully colonized it shouldn't hurt as long as you remove the uncol. myc. I even have two jars that have pins, but not fully colonized.
My question is do you guys think this would be a mistake and too too big of a gamble? I suppose I could keep patient and wait longer, but the growth has slowed and wait probably put me at 2 1/2 months colonizing before fruiting. Any feedback would be appreciated.

PF - Tek / let jars breathe or no?
February 07, 2013, 08:43:05 PM
So I'm confused on whether or not it is good idea to take tape/foil over the holes off and let the myc breathe. I understand the dry layer of verm acts as a barrier against contams, but is it enough? I've had what seems like a stall in a few jars and I think letting them breathe would kickstart the action. Also, a few of the jars that I want to let breathe were not given the full .5inch of dry verm and isn't visible anymore, still let them breathe or too risky?

PF - Tek / How long is too long for jars to colonize?
January 29, 2013, 08:47:05 PM
So 3 strains which are fast/decent colonizers, but using the brown rice/verm mixture they are taking what seems to be a long time to colonize. I keep it at 81-83degrees and it has been 4 weeks now and they are all showing signs of life, and some are thriving, but it seems like most of them have either slowed down or are just not progressing much.
1. Am I keeping it too warm?
2. Did I possibly not inject enough spores?
3. Does checking on them daily really make that much of a difference?
