Cultivation / For my next trick...
December 19, 2008, 08:43:04 AM
I knocked up 8 BRF jars with A-Strain. I was wondering what would be suggested to increase potency and yield of this next grow? I understand I could cases the cakes, and that should increase the yield.

I'm just wondering if there's any other teks that would be recommended.

PF - Tek / Do these look right?

I'm sure this is asked all the time, but please bear with me.

I decided to go with cakes for my first grow for times sake (trying to get this first batch done before christmas!). I birthed the cakes 12/6, dunked and rolled, and placed in the fruiting chamber.

After a couple days I noticed fuzz growth that appeared somewhat grayish. Worried about cobweb mold infection, I kept a close eye on the cakes, and it seems the fuzz growth has slowed if not stopped, and they look more white and not gray under good lighting.

I THINK the cakes are progressing as they should be, but I just wanted expert opinion. Here are a few pics.

Cultivation / casing material alternatives
December 02, 2008, 07:38:23 AM
Having trouble locating peat or jiffy mix (most lawn and garden departments are pretty bare this time of year here).

The closest thing I have found to peat around here is "seed starter", which contains sphagnum peat, vermiculite, perlite, and lime. Sounds like what I need, but I am unsure if it's the right kind of lime, or if it will kill my fungi.

Should I pick up the seed starter, or use 100% verm. for the casing?

PF - Tek / First time- casing or cake?
November 28, 2008, 09:53:26 AM
Hello all,

This is my first grow, and I just had a few questions about which fruiting procedures I should follow. I apologize in advance if I am repeating questions that have been asked and answered in other threads, but I have spent many hours reading posts on here, and just want to make sure I am doing things right.

I am growing EQ on BRF cakes. I inoculated 11/18, and so far they seem to be colonizing quite rapidly. Here's where they're at:

I have been keeping them in a closet with a space heater (w/ automatic shut off) set to low. It seems to be working well to keep the space at a steady warm temp.

I am somewhat confused as to whether I should grow them on the cakes or in a casing once they are ready. I am leaning towards a simple casing (as it seems to require slightly less attention as far as constant watering, and produces bigger flushes), but am unsure if I can do a casing with the BRF cakes.

I have a decent sized plastic tub (green rectangular kind used for recycling) for fruiting, as well as a plastic panel to use to dual chamber it as recommended here: http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_mmgg.shtml

I know Baph, Psilocybin Warrior, and a few others on here are pretty much grow masters, and I've already benefited greatly from reading your other posts. Please advise!
