This website, www.fungifun.org has all the info so you DO NOT have to use growboxes.

PF - Tek / Humidity
June 02, 2004, 11:51:20 PM
During the colonization of the jars there are no special humidity requirements, just normal, room humidity(~50%RH)

Once you birth the cakes in the terrarium, they need a VERY high humidity, 95%-100% RH in order for the cakes to pin and the mushrooms to develop.

>I'm going to do a dry run first to see how the temp and humidity levels go.

Note that when the cakes are in the terrarium both the humidity will be a few ? higher and the temperature will be a bit(1-2?) than if you run the terrarium without the cakes, because the cakes themselves evaporate water and contribute to the total evaporation surface and they also give of some heat.

Was the dung already coooled down when you spawned it?

It depends on the blower, on the working curve of the blower.

You want a blower that outputs 340m3/h at 350 Pa.

They need a couple of hours of light  a day (2+).
How is the humidity, do the cakes look bluish and dry?

>Did you receive my mail anno?
Yes, thank you very much, I will put it online soon.

>When you say fan drying, do you mean a fan blowing over the mushrooms with
>some desiccant under them in some sort of container?

No, just a fan blowing over them, room temperature air.

Then, after 24-48 hours, when they are already dry and hard  you can place them in a sealed Tupperware containing some desiccant in order to get them extra dry. This step is optional.

>What is your preferred method of drying?

Deffintely the fan drying method.

>two days they went from being huge to very very small and thin and black

Do they smell like they were rotten or do they smell just like dry shrooms? I think they might simply have blackened due to the heat.

>Do many Poisonous Species of Mushrooms grow in cow turd ?

No.

>Or is it a pretty safe bet if they display the basic signs of being magic  , they
>probably will be ?

Basic signs is not enough when identifying mushrooms. You have to be safe, so never eat any mushrooms until you are 100% you got the right ones. Mushroom identification requires time to learn, and you will not be sorry if you take this time.

PF - Tek / Temperature
May 22, 2004, 07:42:05 AM
From the inoculation until the jar is visibly colonized, the temperature should be  from 80-85?F for fastest results.
From then on  the temperature should be around 74?F. (+- 4?F)

> Should I just go ahead and birth the cakes into the terrarium without pins or give them another week in the jars?

I think you should do this, since some strains do not easily pin inside the jars.

>Assuming I killed them, is there any way to tell so
Hard to judge. As long they look normal, they are probably OK.

>I have translated pf-tek.Should i post it here or mail it to you?

Please emqail it to me, the adedress is here http://www.fungifun.org/contact.htm

>I took out cakes from incubator 15 days ago and put them on the room
>temperature, still there is nosign of pinning(strain is cubesnis equador).

Some strains don#t form invitro pins. In this case birth the cakes as they are, without pins.

>There was something green on two of my cakes when mycelium started to colonize
Green -> green mold, contamination

>Can Mushrooms grow from contaminated cakes?
Yes and no. In some cases they might, but in general the mold will surpress the mushrooms.

>What will happen if someone eat contaminated mushrooms?
That#s a good question. Depends on the mold: it might not do any harm, it might make you very sick. As a general rule, avoid mushrooms from contaminated cakes.

> Where are you from anno

Austria.

I don't know but I can imagine that the shipping cost would be quite high.

> When doing a Grain tek how do you get the colonized subtrate out of those mason jars with the sholders?
You either shake the grain up so it's loose, or you scoop it out with a spoon.

> Also when casing in the tin foil cases, what would i cover the top of it with?
Plastic foil?

> Would a mushroom with a split in the top of the cap matter if wanting to clone it?
No.

>Also are the mushrooms suppose to be shedding layers of mushroom skin under
>the beggining of the cap on the stem to create a cap...

No, they aren't supposed to, but it happens sometimes, I'm not too sure as to why, it has something to do with the humidity.

>The 6 with 3 layers of foil as lids are colonizing way faster then the others.
Yes, they have more air.

>The foil lid jars are completly white all across the outside. Im planning on letting
>them stay in the dark for another week to make certain that the middles are
done.
You can expose them to light as of now.

>  leaving it just sit in indirect light for a little while longer, to insure lots of pins.
>Any truth to that?
I don't know about more pins, but some  light is deffinitely good to trigger pins. I prefer natural light, natural cycle(if feasable).
