Cultivation / casing my grains with??
February 22, 2010, 08:10:59 AM
im torn on the best way to case my grain bags, the rye grain bags are almost reading to go into the FC but i am having trouble picking the best casing. cor/verm? straw/manure? plain old potting soil? any suggestions?

i am trying to acheive a decent bulk grow from the 2LB grain bag. im a little hesitent to use straw as it seems to contaminate easy from what ive read. im also a little confused as to weather i should lay down the grains then just top with casing choice? or mix grains w casing medium THEN a top layer? couldnt find a detailed tek that compares.

Cultivation / Rye grain bags are colonizing too slow
February 20, 2010, 01:51:36 PM
so i have a 2 LB bag of rye berries that are colonizing very slow.
i innoculated the bag on jan 29th with some MAZ. and the grains
only show slight grain colonization. i have shook the bag once about 7 days ago to move the grains around...they look a bit dry as well. i was thinking of
shooting some sterile h2o but not sure if thats a good idea or not. any suggestions?

Rust is an enemy! i just had a problem with a few jars after
cleaning them also. i just went out and bought new lids.
you could use tin foil to cover the jars. but rust will contaminate
your jars for sure.

Cultivation / Panaeolus Cyanescens
February 15, 2010, 06:13:25 PM
So im attempting a panaeolus cyanescens grow. Im undecided about using either grain bags or the BRF/Manure tek. any suggestions or tips for these?
Also had been toying with the idea of using staight horticulture grade potting soil when fruiting them as i tried it with some cubes and it worked really nice. anyone used potting soil for these and had any luck? -_-

Cultivation / Re: Some tips for making a syringe
February 15, 2010, 01:37:10 PM
Heres a little simpler way, it isnt 100% contam proof but ive not had any problems yet....

get a half pint jar with lid (put a small hole on edge of lid for accessing with your syringe and drawing up spore solution later on), pour about half full with distilled water put lid on and cover the lid with a piece of foil(to prevent water from splashing into the jar when sterilizing) then put the jar in a pot with some water and bring to a simmer and cover with a lid for about 1 1/2 hours. your water should be ready to go!

make your spore print on a piece of foil, make sure you have some good alcohol (about 90% is what i use) to sanitize your hands and scalple and surface area before you start working. wipe the foil down on both sides and let dry before making the spore print. then once you have the print ready and the water is sterile and cool....open the lid and scrape your print into the jar and you will have a jar full of spore juice ready to roll!! sorry if ive missed anything. this method hasnt failed me yet, good luck

Cultivation / Re: moldy jars
February 13, 2010, 09:00:53 PM
i have re-used contam. jars.....soaked them in bleach then washed and rinsed, then tossed them in the steamer for about 2 hrs. they were ok after that.

they sell a really good microbial scrub that will kill ANY virus or contamination, but i think you can only buy it from medical suppliers. Its darn good though.

i used a hand grinder (like for smoke) and then used about 4 grams in a flow thru tea bag, just let it steep for about 15-20 min. WOW! nice results
