OK, you guys are right I was brash and I was a ----. I am sorry P.Warrior . You guys are saints and keep this forum relevant and current for the purpose of serving the greater good for no gains of your own other than the satisfaction of helping someone. The answer I received was less informative than the blurb provided by the website selling the product which brought me no closer to an answer.
Back to the question, do these products have a practical application outside of petri-dishes and cultures? Can they be added to grains, substrate etc.? Better yet has anyone ever used them?

Thank you... I got those answers already b/c I own a dictionary and computer, and am part of modern society, thus, have a rudimentary understanding of antibiotics. (I realize that I have one star next to my name but don't think that I am a moron)

So as I asked, what are the practical uses for these two products and do you know where to find the latter (that means the second one, for all you morons out there).

What exactly are the practical uses of mycological peptone and antibiotics? I have seen the antibiotics somewhere but I can't seem to find them again. Any thoughts?

It's just strange b/c I know that the spores were viable and I know that the incubation parameters are correct. I inoculated w.b.s. one day before the liquid culture and the w.b.s. is 35%.  It could be that the ratio of honey to water is too sweet and thus toxic. It could be that honey is just not a suitable nutrient for pan. cyan. Has anyone ever heard of an alcohol covered cotton ball used for sterilizing, sterilizing 1.5ml of multi-spore inoculate?

When I don't do true bulk, I still like to use manure (pasteurized) to fill those spaces, let it colonize then case.  The reality is that the manure is free and if not usually cheap as shit, easy to prepare (cook, covered and moist, in the oven with an internal temp of 150f for an hour or more). But to answer your question it prob doesn't matter as most things that people freak out about don't matter. If you have really big chunks with monstrous spaces between you may get an uneven pinset but if your parameters are right you'll still get shrooms. I'm sure that some members will be all over me for saying these things but look at me. I have a bastardized conglomeration of improvised teks that make up my system. As a matter of fact I follow not a single complete tek posted on this site or the shroomery etc. and I yield a shit ton of shrooms (enough to wow me at least). It is just a fungus remember, if you keep the competing organisms out, the temp right and the humidity (for all intensive purposes) as high as you can get it without flooding your fruiting cake or pan, it'll be hard to not make them grow. Thats not to say that I haven't seen some disasters and been let down or that you see the same. Experiment and research, the cliche about skinning cats isn't true to perspective in the case of mycology; "there's more than more than one...thousand ways to skin a cat."

I have read that the pan cyan mycelium is not as robust as cube mycelium. Now I am wondering what I am to expect with my multispore liquid culture (4% honey 96% water). In other words, how hard is it to tell when you are good to go with the formentioned parameters?

I find that flipping jars is good just to let CO2 fall out. My money is that you either have a contam and don't know what to look for or your cakes are just plain cold. Green mold can be hard to spot sometimes, especially on birdseed. I suggest opening one jar dumping the sucker out so you can give it a whiff. What you want to smell is funky mushroom smell and not a putread or acrid scent. Also get yourself some cambodian spores, they are good for you (quick and easy strain). The more obvious problem that you have (without question) is that your cakes are cold. Remember that the names of the strains are names like cambodia, honduras, mexican, thailand and NOT maine, michigan, vermont. Your incubator can be as simple as a cooler with a bottle of warm water that you swap every one or two days. 85 to thrive! Oh one more thing if its too cold and your mycelium isn't colonizing quickly, you are allowing for mold, yeast, bacteria etc. to take over b/c they are much more flexible as far as temperature goes. 85 to thrive!

So I am typically all about skipping any step that I can get away with. My method is to start with birdseed jars and then case in composted poo and verm. If this is my method do I really need vermiculite mixed into my cake? My thinking is that it is wasting space that could be used for nutrients and for more mycelium which would then translate into quicker stronger colonization of the casing. Am I right?
