Cultivation / Boiling Shrooms
July 01, 2009, 02:28:56 PM
Does it make any difference if the shrooms are not dried when you are boiling them to make tea or something.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Im just worried about the first two pics, along with like 3 others, they were the only ones that dropped spores in the FC.  They just seem weird to me.
Oh well, ill be trying them this weekend, so ill give a little story how it went.

Cultivation / Mushrooms Drying look WEIRD (pics)
June 21, 2009, 04:30:39 PM
Ive been drying my mushrooms out for a couple days now and they seem like there almost ready.  The only thing is they just dont seem to look right.

They are a Golden Teachers type strain and they just seem old and dying looking.
I figured they almost look black, because before i took them out of the FC, a lot of spores had fallen onto them and i didnt bother drying to wipe them off.

Another question i have is this little growth on one of my stems.  Im not sure what it really is but its stuck on there.  I could get it off if i wanted to but im not sure what it is.
Im really confused and all i wanna know is if these mushrooms are good to eat.
Thanks.

Cultivation / Plucking my flush too LATE (pics)
June 17, 2009, 11:22:16 AM
I was wondering when the right time to pluck the mushrooms would be, until i noticed that all the spores fell outta them, i took them out right away.

Does this mean that the shrooms will be less effective, or any different than if i had picked them sooner?

I hope the cake is still OK to use too and the spores wont affect the next flush that comes along.
What do you guys think.
Thanks.

YES!
They are outstanding.  They look really weird though and 2 of the cakes arent even growing that much.

They are in a new environment of course and its surrounded by a heating blanket that pushes the temperature up to almost 80 degrees because they are in a basement.

I hope everything looks ok.  Let me know.
Thanks.

Aww. Come on.  All of them.  Will they still keep growing.
Will I get enough mushrooms out of this.

These are what they look like.  All im worried about is the brown stuff on the cake with the four mushrooms growing out of it.  It wasnt there before it got wet with the water.  I hope its nothing bad.
There in the same conditions they were in before so im also hoping theyll be fine like you say.
I appreciate the response.
Thanks.

Can they still grow correctly and will there be anything wrong with them as soon as they a ready to be dried?
I recently transfered my FC by foot to a different house and was a little careless about it.  The cakes had fallen over and water was splashed onto them.  2 of the 4 cakes had tipped over and soaked in the water for a while.  There is mushrooms growth on the cakes that reaches about 3 inches long.  they just pinned about a couple days ago.
I know  these cakes were basically soaked by the water.
I want to know if its ok for them to grow or if im screwed and need to start over.
I will post pictures as soon as possible, but until then im just really worried.
Thanks.

PF - Tek / Second Fruiting Chamber (Pictures)
May 21, 2009, 02:25:16 PM
This is my second attempt at trying to fruit my cakes.  Ive changed from a perlite FC to a clay balls with water pump FC.

Its been 2 days and they are seeming to be better.  Im not sure but i think there may be some kind of growth at the bottoms.  I dont see any brown pin heads though.

The humidity is not higher at all though, it went from 75-80% humidity to around 70-75%. I think my hygrometer might be off or something.

The temperature seems to be fine.

Im just hoping im not doing anything wrong again and i dont have to go and make a new fruiting chamber.
Thanks.

Well its been 7 days in this condition and ive tried to keep the humidity up with a sprayer and basically misted every corner of the fruiting chamber and everything has still been the same.
Im following the "Poor Mans Pod" from the shroomery tomorrow and im going to transfer the cakes into that fruiting chamber.
Do you think if the conditions get right then the cakes will grow?
Or are they already worthless because of how long they have been out with good conditions?
Thanks.

Ive just put my cakes into my fruiting chamber yesterday and have been trying to keep the temperature and humidity up high.

The temperature is about 72 degrees and the humidity is around 80%.  Im wondering if this is suitable for them to grow in and if they will grow fast.

Ive had to put in a rock heater because the temperature was not high enough, it's been only a few hours and it hasnt made that much of a difference.  Im guessing ill just need to wait a little while longer before i see it affecting the the temperature.

As for the humidity ive had to plug up the many holes i made to try and get it higher.  Its gone up a little but im worried it might not be enough.

Is everything im doing OK?
Is there something i need to change in order to make the growing of these better?

Thanks.

PF - Tek / Weird Water Droplets (Pictures)
April 30, 2009, 03:47:08 PM
Hey,
I really havent been counting days, but I think its been roughly 14 or 16 of them after i inoculated the jars.
They've been fine from my knowledge until i noticed weird water drops on the inside of the jars.  Im not sure if its from putting too much water in the jars or if its just some kind of weird bubbles, but they look like this:

I doubt its anything to be afraid of, but i just wasnt expecting it and wanna know if its affecting the growth of the mycelium.
Thanks.

Hey,
Its been 7 days now and here's what they look like:

I dont know if those black spots on there are mold or what.  I doubt it is but im just expecting anything to happen.
According to how fast it has been growing, how long do you think ill have to wait till its fully colonized?
Thanks.

PF - Tek / Inoculating a WET Jar
April 16, 2009, 06:36:56 PM
I've inoculated 2 of my 4 jars today.
I boiled them for an hour and a half and i left them in the pot until they were room temperature.  I took them out and put them in my sterile room.  As soon as i tore off the tin foil on top of the jars, i noticed that they still were wet and the masking tape i put on the holes were wet.  i looked in the jars and saw spots of water in the jars.
I only inoculated 2 of them because i wasn't sure i was suppose to inoculate them when their wet.  I'm saving the 2 others for later until they dry or something.
Did I do this right or what.  Are they suppose to be wet or dry?
Thanks.

PF - Tek / Burnt Foil while Boiling
April 16, 2009, 12:56:15 PM
I just started my Mushroom cultivation process and boiled the jars today.  I did not use a pressure cooker and just boiled them in water for an hour and a half.
I used rocks on the bottom so the jars would not crack or break.
This is my first time doing this so I did not know if what I did was right.  I saw much bubbles and water splashing up over and on top of the jars.
I was unsure what to do so I took some water out because some of the foil on the jars were burnt brown.

http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sany10685283326.jpg

I continued on with this because I really couldn't do much.  I left the water level down pretty low though, until the water touched the bottom of the jars.
I'm waiting for them to cool now, so I just wanted to know if what I did was OK.  Thanks.

PF - Tek / Sterilization - Boiling Jars
April 10, 2009, 05:49:13 PM
I have a quick question about sterilizing my jars.  I'm not using a pressure cooker so ill just be boiling them in a pot.  Since it's not a pressure cooker, is there anything I have to do differently?
How long do I keep the jars in the pot before I take them out?
I assume the water will evaporate fast so do I just keep adding more water?
When I take them out, do I have to be careful about bacteria when transferring them into the inoculating area?
Thanks.

Well thanks for the help.
I noticed theres a bunch of ways of making a fruiting chamber and I was trying to follow the PF Tek version from the 4 part video on YouTube on Let's Grow Mushrooms.
Heres my next attempt at drilling the holes in another storage tub.  I went less crazy with the drill this time.

http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sany09749030305.jpg

If i can't get the humidity near 100% than im just gonna tape up the holes.  Im gonna use some perlite on the bottom.  I dont wanna go through getting an air pump and setting it up.
Other than this storage tub, im thinking that everything else is ok.  Is it.

PF - Tek / Fruiting Chamber(PICs)/Growing First time
March 20, 2009, 02:43:15 PM
Hey,
Ive recently started trying to make a growing room and a fruiting chamber for growing mushrooms.  Im almost ready all im waiting for is the spores to be sent to me through the mail.

I got (5) 7.5oz jars and drilled four holes on the top lid.  Thid id what one of them looks like:

http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sany09228273162.jpg

I drilled holes in a storage tub as well.

http://img11.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sany09218626260.jpg

While i was trying to do this i made a couple of cracks.  One big noticeable one on the bottom.  I wasn't sure how to take care of this so i tried super gluing the cracks.  I hope this is ok.

http://img5.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sany09238336884.jpg

I put some super glue on the sides as well.
This is where i plan on growing everything and im just wondering what you guys think and if the super glue, or the cracks will effect the growing of the shrooms in the FC.

Thanks for your help.  I hope im doing everything alright.
