the crumbled cakes will work. it will also yield more. i started the same way....first brf cakes, then crumbled cakes and casing, and eventually moved to grains. i found a nice popcorn tek on shroomery.org. very easy and good yields. -_-

if you want bettter yeilds you should change up your methods. i suggest using popcorn or wild bird seed. i case mine with 50/50 peat moss and vermiculite. the cakes are great for beginners, but casing is where it's at. you could also crumble and case your cakes for a better result.

be careful with your temperature. 85 is a little high. you want the mycellium to beat out the contaminates. i keep my incubator at a steady 81. the cakes are good for beginners, but i found popcorn very easy to work with. it is cheap and fast to colonize.

i have grown all of them. my advice is to do the same. GT's were my first and i did just fine. just make sure your methods are sterile and follow the teks as close as possible. are you doing brf cakes or grains??? and remember, it is not the strain that is important, it's who you share it with.

it is nice to see some familiar names. i moved and the pc was packed away for some time. i was going to start a new thread, but the hell with that. here is my question....are certain strains stronger than others??? i read that psylocibe bohemica is rather potent. don't quote me on the spelling. :rolleyes

i have not been on this site for some time now. just wanted to thank everyone (malabar, fattrout, dub, shroomzer) for all of your help last year. i was just starting out and knew nothing about growing. after some reading and some input from some great poeple, i was on my way. i just knocked up 12 jars of popcorn with a spore print i have been saving. i'll post pics soon. thanks again!!!!!

yo trout,it has been a couple of weeks. did you perform the other half of the "experiment". i always heard that caps are more potent, but never had the means to put it to the test.

malabar, when you did your casings, did you use the plastic lids that go with the container?
