PF - Tek / A few ?'s that I have
April 18, 2004, 08:23:20 AM
I use foil lids, I have the feeling the jars are better ventilated that way and they colonize faster. If you have the option to try different things, try them out, ultimately you will find your tek.

I wouldn?t use tape if you use a lid, but rather use one layer of foil over the holes.

The lid  of the pot should be on as tight as possible so you get a nice, steamy environment for the jars.

I stack the jars rightside up.

Then I would suggest to try a diffeerent tek than the PF-Tek.
You could sterilize some rye
http://www.fungifun.org/grain
inoculate it, and once colonized case it.
Many documents about it at http://www.shroomery.org/casing .

Perlite is pretty clean out of the bag. If you want to sterilize it, simply boil it in water for 30 minutes.

Yes, it was a different type of attack this time, someone created hundreds of  anonymous users that searched the boards.

Please don't write in all big caps.

Patience. It can take from 7-14 days for pins to emerge. Just provide them a high humidity.

It's is normal for mushrooms to blue when bruised.
You should transfer the cakes to the terrarium before the mushrooms have grown that big.

I live in Austria, thus I bought the filter and the blower in Austria.
The filter at http://www.czech.at , the filter had this tag on  it:

The blower was from http://www.systemair.de/main/service/downl...latoren/rvk.pdf Model number RVK 160E2-L1

IMO cold shocking is useless with P. cubensis.

The recommended time to harvest is soon after the veil brakes.

After that the mushroom doesn?t gain much on the mass anymore, and it releases many spores which are a  mess.

Read http://annonymer.members.easyspace.com/GROWTH_PARAMETERS.htm for more details on the growth parameters.

Nice!

Just a word of caution: A translucent casing container will cause the mycelium pining on the sides of the substrate instead on the casing surface.

Ideally there should?t be any pins on the side of the container.
They only appear if the container is translucent(which it shouldn?t be)
Therefor there is no point in taking the substrate out of the container, just leave it there and threat it as casing.
The Shroomery cultivation FAQ has the answers to your other questions, just take some time to research it.

>- Do flat cakes need a terrarium

Flat cakes have the same high humidity requirements as cakes, so yes, they will need some kind of an enclosure.

>how long for anyone of my creative experiments can i leave in the Terrarium
>without fanning or spraying do to the lack of care taken away by work and
school?

P. cubensis is a very tolerant species, so you can leave the terrarium without fanning for a couple of days(or even longer, see since P. cubensis fruits even in spawn bags without any active aeration.
You shouldn't let them unattended one the pins have grown over 1/2 an inch, since from then it?s only a matter of 1-2 days when you have fully grown mushrooms.

>- Is it only for other mushroom types that grow on the sides of flat cakes or does
>that go with P. Cubensis also....and if i do not take the flat cake out of the
>container will they still grow huge flushes as heard and maybe even after the
>first flush be able to take out, dunk, and leave out for a no container flat cake
>flush?

I am not a big fan of the flat cake, since there is no point really in crumbling the cakes and then NOT casing them.
My advice is, if you don?t want to fruit the cakes as whole cakes, then go the casing route.

1. downlaod and install the divx drivers
2. right click on the link to the mushroom video and choose "Save as..." and save it on your computer.
3. right click the downloaded file and choose "Open with..." and choose the Windows Media player. provided you have the divx drivers installed it should work.
