Cultivation / beating the cold
January 16, 2010, 10:52:20 AM
Hello friends, it's damn cold out there.  Anyone have any general tips to share about keeping their FC's warm in the winter?  I'm using a heating pad under my trays but it will only run for about 30 min before automatically shutting off- not very consistent.  Got a couple big trays of GT's but not sure if I can get them to fruit in this cold.

dub-

I've made ayahuasca a few times with mimosa hostilis and rue.  It does remind me of smoking rue on a mushroom trip.  I haven't ventured back into it since the last time I made it- VERY intense, I must admit I wasn't prepared for it and it brought me to my knees.

Cultivation / will lysol kill mycelium?
January 12, 2010, 08:22:30 AM
?

Just a thought... can't find any opinions on the matter.  I usually give a little mist in the general area when I have to pull back the hood on my FC to fan, mist, etc.  I don't spray it on the casings or anything crazy like that, I'm just trying to be extra careful since I lost my last casing to the mean green.  Can lysol make the mycelium sick?

That's the basic idea.  Follow the procedures on this page - http://www.fungifun.org/English/Pftek to the letter, and there's no reason you shouldn't produce enough for at least 3 doses.

Let us know when you have specific problems, or if anything on that page is unclear.

yeah coyote... I usually spend my time waiting for spores by waiting for jars to colonize, waiting for casings to fruit, waiting for fruits to dry, waiting for my system to be ready for another dose...

So I just looked over some of the lists of foods that you shouldn't take with MAOIs and chocolate is on the low end of concern.

Tyramine is the problem- it is only broken down by MAO enzymes and too much of it in your system will trigger hypertensive reactions, starting with headaches.  The only major culprits are cheese, avocados and bananas.  Also, refrigerated meat produces a lot of tyramine the longer you store it.

P.S. That's interesting about Rue leaves, I've never even heard of that.  I've only ever used seeds.  I've only had headache with them once or twice; they are quite good to me, I smoke a bowl of them every once in a while and it really clears the head.  Some Eastern countries use the smoke to treat people who have contracted the evil eye.

I don't know what the difference between cocoa and chocolate is, but it you were to eat chocolate with your shrooms, you should be careful.  Chocolate is pretty high up on the list of foods to avoid with MAOIs; some kinds of chocoalte are worse than others, I can't remember which... look it up.

It's not necessarily life or death... but I've gotten some nasty headaches in the past from smoking rue when I've had cheese or soy sauce in my system.  The interaction CAN be fatal but I think you'd have to have a pretty large amount of cheese, miso, coffee, chocolate, etc. in your diet, over a long period of time to trigger that serious of a reaction.  I'm sure it's much more dangerous if you are already prone to high blood pressure, but I wouldn't know about that.

But of course... ALWAYS do the research.

Well thank you thank you.

I assure you, however that grow turned out so well is a mystery to me.  I tended to it pretty obsessively, but I didn't really know what I was doing and there were HUGE fluctuations in the RH while they were fruiting that I could just barely control.

It was just a little blessing from lord mushroom to encourage me... thanks for the additional encouragement, friends!

$15 a gram sounds a little steep.  Does the market differ a lot from region to region?  I don't think I've ever paid more than $30 an eighth in the southeast.  Though I have paid $20 for rip-off chocolates that probably contained less than a gram but... live and learn.  Glad those days are over !

Handle them as little as possible... but don't be scared to touch them either.  They can take it.

That's what I'm so curious about- does using Rue with, say, 8 or 9 grams give you a preview of where 18g could put you, or is it a qualitatively different experience?  If it is like a "preview", how is the preview different?  In other words, why would you ever take 18g instead of 9g + Rue?

So I know this topic has been touched elsewhere, but I was hoping some of you with lots of "flight time" could weigh in about syrian rue (or any MAOI), specifically the quality of a half dose + rue trip vs. a regular dose with no MAOI trip.  I mean, other than "it intensifies effects".  I mean... how does the trip quality specifically differ for you?

Last night, for the first time, I took a smaller dose (2.5g) and mixed ground syrian rue with the bowls I smoked... extremely pleased with the results!!  The advantages seem so great to me... conserve mushroom supply... little to no hangover... indescribable visions!  I'm asking myself- why should I go back to taking 4-5 grams?  Maybe you guys have some opinions...

The main difference, for me, was that with the rue + ganja smoking, I could sit with my eyes closed and watch the most amazing, mind-boggling DMT-like stuff.... but if I got up to cook some food, I was very nearly sober.  Well... sober and very happy anyway  -_-.  Also, this is the first morning after where I haven't had to smoke A LOT of pot to deal with the jet lag.

I meant 2 months for that first batch.  Actually, 9 and a half weeks according to my records.

If they still won't colonize, you could probably make a casing with your half-cakes and continue on.  I did that with a couple cakes in my last batch and the casing turned out nicely.  But waiting is the best.

The first time I did PF cakes, they took FOREVER to colonize.  Like a month.  When I finally birthed them (thanks to some advice on here), they still weren't 100% but they were fit to BURST.  Pretty much the moment I got them into the FC, I had lots and lots of fruit!

not to be paranoid  ^_^, but...

this thread brings up something I wonder about- anyone ever had any run-ins with Johnny Law?  I don't really think about it much.... this hobby seems a little far down on their list of priorities.  Maybe.  But how far would one have to go to arouse the local law enforcement?  Anyone have any advice from experience (other than what we should all assume as given, e.g "don't tell anyone!")?  Sorry if this topic has been covered, I don't see anything in my search.

Tony- maybe with a little luck and pro-activity, your local herbal dispensaries will carry medicinal mycological products in the near future!  Damn you CA, if only I could buy a quarter of Sour Deisel for my "writer's block" without having to deal with punk-assed high schoolers who wear Scarface T-shirts!
