Title: WBS Q's
Post by: dub504 on July 13, 2009, 02:17:57 PM
Do you guys simmer the bird seed after soaking overnight?
Also, is a Finch blend ok? It has White Millet, Hulled Sunflower Chips, Siberian Millet, Nyjer Seed, Canary, and Red Millet. The wild bird seed blend had a lot of sunflower. I read somewhere that was bad.

Yes I do. The soaking is to get any endospores and such to germinate. The simmering fully hydrates the seeds. The PC sterilizes the whole thing. Most important thing is to drain, drain, drain the grain. It's easy for it to be too wet then it contams every time.

I dont soak but it still doesnt hurt to rinse well. When you put it in the pot the sunflowers should float to the top and you can take em out how ever you'd like(same with any floaties).
