General topics / *** laminar flow hood question ***

You don?t work inside like a glovebox, completely sealed. You work in front of it and everthing gets nailed and glued plus siliconed to get all the air from the blower through the filter, and only through the filter. This way you get a laminar airflow which is what you want.

http://www.fungifun.org/cloning/  in this pic you can see someone working in front of the filter.

This one is pro and well finished:  http://www.mycotopia.net/discus/messages/5...html?1004072186

And here you can see the filter while the guy works with agar in front of it:

The important thing is to find out what airflow delivers your blower according to the initial resistances of the HEPA filter and the prefilter.

Read: http://www.fungifun.org/flowhood/match.htm and/or Appendix II-Laminar Flow Systems-page 347-TMC

Edit: Maybe this might help also, as you can see I was at the same point as you not so long ago. Now, my flowhood is working great (Thanks Anno for your time, knowledge and patience!!!)

I found a cheaper blower. It costs around 140? but it is overpowered for what I want, how can I reduce the outcomming air flow? maybe installing 3 prefilters.

Thanks for the reply

Another question: Do you guys use any sort of air exchange in the colonization of the dung mix (such as filter disks or polyfill or anything)?

">is it O.K. if I make compost only from straw and put 1 or 2 inches of dung on top
>as a casing layer?

I would simply mix the straw and the dung you have, pasteurize it together, spawn with grain spawn and then case with 50/50 casing. "

But, what is better in yield terms? To mix dung with straw then pasteurize or to make compost out of dung, straw and other ingredientes (to boost the actinomyces and all that stuff).

Hey man, how much did your blower cost? Are you talking about the one in the "Flowhood pictorial" 180? more or less? I just want to know, to avoid getting ripped off. You know, Spain is a nice country but it?s full of thieves, pirates and MF?s  :( .

Thanks.

I don?t know how to post information received by Fax. I just attached the file that did save in my computer as a gif file. Don?t know if it will work.

Thanks.

Edit: Initial static pressure: 300 Pa for the filter + 50 for the prefilter=350 Total.
Total cost=228 euros new. Too expensive, maybe?

Yes, I did it 24 hours after pasteurizing it.

Hi,

I purchased a HEPA filter rated H14 99,995% ef. on 0,3 microns, 300 Pa and 305x610x292mm and I want to get the correct blower.
According to the example of "match a suitable blower" in the Flowhood pictorial, my filter is the same except for the 300 Pa initial resistance and the 292mm.  In the example the HEPA filter is at an initial 250 Pa + 50 Pa for the prefilter = 300 total. Mine is 300 + 50 for the prefilter=350 Pa initial resistance. How many more cfm?s do the blower need to work at to get the desired 0,5m/sec.-30m/min-1800m3/hour for that initial resistance and the 292mm?

I hope somebody understands what I mean  :D

Thanks anyhow

Hello all,

I picked up some fresh cow shit that I dried outside till it was completely dry and no strange odors were present. In fact, the shit smelled like a high quality soil, no ammonia, no shit smell.
I crumbled it till it was a fine type of soil then mixed with verm and put in a 3 liter tupperware where I moistened it well. I left it sit 24 hours to leave the shit, verm and pieces of straw absorb the water well (Nan?s method). Once the time was over I had to water again cause the mix was really dry.
The next day I pasteurized the shit/verm mix inside the tupperware in a pot with water at 80?C for 2 full hours (this procedure worked for me in the past).
Then I spawned it with some colonized WBS that was inoc. with agar wedges from a cloned shroom. I used 2 pint jars of fully colonized WBS per 3 liter dung/verm tupperware.
It?s been 2 weeks and no colonization present. There are no contams neither. They are in a closet that I use as incubator with no heating pad.

What?s wrong?

Why don?t you build something similar yourself (DIY)? Like a big plastic bin with an air bubbler attached, some perlite at the bottom and 1" water/H2O2 or iodine or salt mix. Total cost: 35-40$  ;)

Hey Anno, do you sterilize the water of the cool mist humidifier or do you just add some bleach or iodine?
