General topics / refrigerated grain spawn
January 30, 2009, 04:39:59 AM

How long can colonized rye grain spawn last in the fridge before it is no longer viable for 1. g to g transfers 2.Spawn to bulk 3. case and fruit the grain.  Is there any one of the three where it can last longer?

Thanks

Can pre pasteurized bulk sub's be frozen for semi-long term storage? (1-2months) Once thawed wouldn't it be relatively sterile w/ all beneficial microbes being killed?  Could one PC the sub after it was thawed or would the quality degradation be too significant?  My supplier sells only 10 lb. increments leaving me a lot of waste.

Thanks you guys are a big help!

Cultivation / Re: Fruiting in darkness

Why are you guys so stuck up and mean?  The majority of people who write in do so 'cause there are things they DONT KNOW, myself included.  If this is what the guy noticed so be it.  One of the best grows I've ever seen was done as as an experiment w/ only a minute or so of light a day.  See for yourself!!  Go to the Shroomry and look for Bulk neglect report by Mycofile. You'll shit.  Also in Stamit's  first book he discusses an experiment done at a University which found that mushrooms can be triggered to fruit w/  only Milli seconds of light!  Thats why they recommend checking the progress of the caseing run w/ a red light, because even brief white expouser is enough to trigger pins. Dont be so hard on people.  That dude will probably never write in again.  Mycology is the best hobby ever, don't do things to wreck peoples expearance.

Cultivation / clone

How many times can a sub-strain be cloned before problems occur?
I have been using the same culture for almost a year being rather careless about keeping a master Jar and too lazy to make a slant.  A jar from a jar to a jar to jars to a jar kind of a deal, and now I am starting to see deformed shrooms.  The strain still performes well however. Is it too late to make a slant?
Thanks
