If you can get your hands on Jackal, Werewolf, or Alaskan Timber wolf urine, Id highly advise in doing so, its basically roids for mycelium. Its free if you live in the correct geographical location.

Hmmm my friend from school has a wolf-dog I wonder if that urine would do :P xD

I might just order some plastic lids online. That'd clear up my lids rusting away on me.

I don't remember giving advice to anybody, might've, been forgetful these days. Seems you're getting the implication of me pretending I know what I'm talking about. I know I don't know much about mushroom growing.

Well I tried to knock up a jar of WBS. I referenced a tek that said to remove all floaters(pain in the ass if you don't got a mini strainer). I noticed colonization occured faster than one of my BRF cakes I had in there with it.

I already made the holes using a nail and piece of wood with a hole in it(to easily push the nail through). The rust isn't THAT bad its just present.

Would polyester filling the holes help combat the rust that is forming from moisture? From everything I've read so far I have yet to actually come across any mention of rust oddly.
Edit;
Just did a quick search on shroomery... http://www.shroomery.org/5163/Theres-rust-on-the-lids-of-my-PF-jars-is-that-okay once again I'm finding info on there and then hearing other things from other sources(fungifun.org)

If you're concerned about your ISP tracking you through your DNS requests you could set your browser(or router) to use openDNS(www.opendns.com) that way instead of you using your ISPs DNS servers you're going to another source. I use openDNS myself. But not for hiding what I do hehe.

http://www.shroomery.org/6279/Substrate-Tea Maybe you should do some research before making jokes some people reportedly got high. No need to be a douche bag

So this seems like a problem I'm not sure how to combat. My lids where I put holes, and even some other places :() have rust. When I reused my last jars I cleaned the rust off as good as possible but on this batch when I disposed of the bad jars the lids had rust forming from the moisture inside jars. Should I be worried about rust it seems pretty obvious that it is a very good contamination factor but I could be wrong.

My two cents vandal but from other setups a air pump like that is used for FAE so I'm presuming that that setup would also cause a good amont of FAE.

Yep, yours sound like they are bad to me. Maybe you should make some kind of tea out of em or just crumble them up and eat them, that way you don't waste any of your investment. Let us know how it works out for you.
Maybe you should read some other more recent topics I already tried substrate tea, tasted like crap and didn't even get high from it.

I wasn't refering to my batch right now, my last batch none of the jars looked like they had as thick mycellium as the pictures I usually see around the net.
well u said that your jars that colonized over night where white lmao, kinda a dumb question. . . I would say yes there is something wrong with yours

I've noticed in alot of the pictures I see of jars the mycellium looks very thick compared to mine. My growth usually looks lighter(still white but not as thick) are those just good colonizers or is something wrong with my jars/substrate?

That'd just about do it having a low temperature. I personally rather grow during the colder seasons because I can heat up the room :)

Cultivation / Re: Some tips for making a syringe
February 15, 2010, 03:26:25 PM
Reading around I seen you need to let the spores get hydrated(which I just scraped, sucked up and injected). Thanks for this tip, next batch I will try this, and anyother suggestions, out. I plan on ordering/buying a couple syringes. Any particular cause that made black mold grow, or is it just one of those things that happens with bad syringes? I've also noticed one thing in particular about molds from my first batch, I only had got green mold in my bad jars so that seems like green mold is a bad sterilization indicator and black means bad syringe :P haha that's probably wrong but my two cents

Well those jars that colonized really quickly were indeed contaminated, but it doesn't look like cobweb mold. There is a very black mold in there. My other jars don't appear to have this mold so I'm assmuming its the syringe. I made my syringe by doing the following;
-Used rubbing alchohol to sterilze a 250ml jar
-Turned oven on to cause some air flow
-Flame sterilized exacto blade, then used rubbing alchohol after words
-Put the jar on the oven rack and then moved the mushroom cap into the jar
-Put the jar lid on and let it sit for a day to make a spore print, then moved the mushroom cap to make another print, let sit for another day
-Few days later I used the needle tip(don't recall if I sterilized it or not) to scrape the print around in about 20cc of distilled water
If my other jars don't have this black mold I would be led on to think something went wrong in my syringe making.

http://www.shroomery.org/6279/Substrate-Tea Figured if it worked I'd be able to enjoy an extra trip to mushroom land. I don't know what kind of cake this guy had but nothing had happened for me and I didn't even let mine sit in boiling water cause I know heat destroys the psychoactive chemicals.
