Cultivation / house Trich
April 12, 2010, 08:14:51 PM
I've read many times.. "pull contam's out of house". Just like male plants.. it's a hard decision. I learned the hard way. EVERYTHING since has been green. Now what? I shut down and do what? Hepa the room? Different room? I haven't done a Hepa hood yet but when I start again I'll have one built. But the house...How do I clean the room/house? When they say "pull out"... "PULL OUT!"

Cultivation / Stems are splitting

My stems are splitting when near maturity. Humidity? I'm not watering, they (blocks) repel water. Haven't tried soaking. Any ideas?

Cultivation / Re: Spent Spawn blocks

No, it's my modified method. And I left out a step.
1. Inoculate sterilized Rye grain (Stamets) with liquid or petri
2. Sterilize straw with bleach bath method (Stamets)
3. Inoculate straw with colonized Rye grain
4. Mix VERY well and stuff into spawn bags and seal with some air. Tight pack seems to work best.
5. Once colonized, unseal, turn upside down and push the brick into grow chamber.
6. Spray and FAE as usual
Not perfected but it's cheap, easy and I've had great results. Yields more and less contamination compared to trays. My experience.

I got 2 BIG flushes and a minimal 3 rd. I just spray and  fresh air. Blocks are a nice way to go. Have been re-sterilizing and re-using the bags too.

Cultivation / rye grain prep
March 10, 2010, 09:33:12 PM
I'm getting clumpy crap at the bottom of my jar after sterilization. Quart. I soak 1 C Rye for 1 hr. Drain for 2 hr. Add 2/3 C water, and sterilize  1 hr. Clumpy. What gives? Too much water? Other grains are perfect.

Great, thanks

Cultivation / Spent Spawn blocks

I have some spent, (some mold) spawn blocks. Rye to straw to bag. 6x8x12. Could a guy bury in the nearest forest peat or wet, quiet corner of my yard? Garbage can results=0. What do you do?

What's RH and FAE? Fresh air exchange? Same problem. Aquarium air pump work? Stamets says watering?! Really? I tried with tap water and got green. Spawn block was spent anyways but I thought I'd try for a 4th flush.

Cultivation / Re: Straw in Spawn Bags: UPDATE
February 13, 2010, 09:28:56 AM
This worked great! Pulled the bags off after full colony an put in enclosure. Next time I think I will pack tighter. Nice bricks. Question... I had an unexpected late harvest. They turned into giants with caps way bigger than a beer can and length 8 - 10". But spores everywhere. Black. It's my 2nd flush. Will this affect the next flush if there is one? I don't feel safe sending pics.

Cultivation / Straw in Spawn Bags

Is it a bad idea to put inoculated straw into spawn bags? Or should straw be limited to trays and bags limited to grain or sawdust?

Cultivation / Re: Liquid Inoc Newbie, results = near 0

Do ya have a better method for grain prep, or just use a little more water. Does soaking work?
thanks

Cultivation / Liquid Inoc Newbie, results = near 0

I'm using Stamets' Shroom Cult. formula for QT rye grain: 1C grain & 3/4 water. No soak. PC 45 mins @ 15 lbs. Cool (room temp) and inoculate w/2cc each. I did total 8 jars. 25 days later 2 jars show small spots, not even enough to shake. Grain looks dry. Any suggestions? Any magic to save these 8 jars? Mix with wetter grain? Thanks
