Hey, BigfatmouthJ, any word on your bro? The one with fungi eye? Hope, for his sake, that everything is working out. Hopefully he tripped his ass off for all the bullshit he is going through.

When doing a dunk and roll after the first flush, should you submerge in water for 12 - 24 hours the same way you do when birthed?

Shroomzer, I did read those topics and I had figured that he would be back to his normal self. Anyway, I was just basically saying that I hope he gets well and can help me with some of is vast knowledge. Hope all is well. Happy growing. Also, my jars are colonizing at a fantastic speed. OH YEAH!!!

Dude, if you call $20 "big bills" you have a long way to go in life.

Hey man, that's about the same thing I'm about to do. I'm also new, it will be my first time fruiting BRF cakes. First time fruiting anything actually. I've also heard that instead of using your big bin full of water on the bottom, you could put a small cup or tub of water inside your FC and put your aquarium heater in that. Just an idea.

Where is Malabar??..??
I've read almost every post on this site and Malabar has offered me much advice, indirectly. How is he? Just wondering. I feel like I almost know him from reading all these posts. LIFE IS GOOD.. I wish I would see that more on this forum.
Malabar.... hope you are well. Would love it if you posted in one of my posts, I would LOVE it.
Thanks all

Thanks Trout.. I think I will pull that shit right off. You're right, on the pf tek video I watched the guy didn't have any foil on his. Oh yeah, you guys ever see the "Lets grow mushrooms" 1-4 on youtube. The best!!! For beginners that is.

idk, next time I do some jars I might try doing a few without a lid and some with lids w/ holes and see what works best. At this point I've been waiting almost a year to get this hobby rolling so patience is somewhat hard to come by, but I understand the importance. Probably like 5 years since I've consumed any of the beauties. Hopefully less than a month and I'll be reacquainted with my long lost little friends.
Thanks for the help.

Hey guys. I know gas exchange is important at all levels of mycelium and fruit growth so I tried something and it's obviously helping.
I have BRF cakes in pint jars. I used a small drill bit and drilled 4 holes in the covers for inoculation and then a tinfoil cover over that during steam sterilization. I didn't realize that the tape should have come off when I put them in in my incubation chamber. All my jars started growing mycelium and shortly thereafter started to slow. I recently pulled the masking off my holes and bunched the foil up so as to allow more airflow and presto, the growth is speeding up. faster than ever. I check them everyday( I know it's dumb and pointless and maybe even detrimental to growth) and I can see a vast improvement in growth. Just a bit of info from one newbie to another.

Thank much man. I was looking at pictures and shit trying to see how other people had theirs setup, but they were all covered in foil too. I will untape mine.! When using BRF are you using the 4 hole in your cover with holes? That's what I have setup. Think I will get enough gas exchange with that setup with foil lightly on??
Thanks again man.
SO EXCIETED!!!!!

PF - Tek / Qustion on gas exchange?
February 19, 2010, 01:45:24 PM
Hey guys, thanks for all the help so far on my first grow!
I used i pint jars with 4 holes with tape on them for innoc. Then I put aluminum foil over them and steamed. I pulled the foil off for innoc and then put it back on for incubation. The first batch I did seem to be growing mycelium, slowly, but steady. I have read in some posts about gas exchange in the incubation period. Does this apply in my case? Should I be letting my jars breath somehow? BTW I'm using BRF cakes.
Also, what are some average times from first growth signs to 100% colonization? I know it is different from person to person and strain to strain, but a little input would be nice.
So do I let my BRF cakes breath during incubation?
What are some average lengths of 100% colonization of BRF cakes @ 82F?
Thanks much guys!! I'll keep posting pics as I go. Hopefully you guys like seeing my pics as much as I like seeing yours -_-
oh yeah..... I hit them up with spores. no LC

When I crumble, to be clean, should I do it in a bag or someshit? Any recommendations? And I'll have to go back and check up on my casing tek. I have 5 pints growing right now and 5 i hit up yesterday, so if they all look good I'll take a few and case em up. Anything you learned from your first casing attempts that you wish you learned from the teks?

After reading many of your posts, I gather that casing my jars is probably the way to go. Two questions,
1 - If I case should I crumble the cakes?
2 - If I case some and leave some will they do fine in the same FC? Do casings need anymore FAE or anything like that?

Thanks guys!

Hey, do you guys think that my flushes will be bigger since there is more nutrients in the 1 pint jars rather than the 1/2 pints many use?

I use that setup you talked about for my incubation. It seems to be working great. My aquarium heater did cost like $30, but I got it in a pinch and didn'd do any shopping around. I bet you could get one cheaper if you looked around. I have mine in a nice dark closet. I bet a couple of black trashbags might also do the trick.

Yeah I have some.... just pay $1,000,000.00 for shipping.

No worries trout.. U guys use photo bucket? or someshit like that? If you have an URL for the place you are using to upload photos I'll hook it up. Also, trout, learned a lot from you reading your past posts. Thanks for this input and know how! This forum RULES. Glad to see so many people growing and sharing

Thanks nice guy. I was trying to use a space heater, but my house is very drafty and therefor I try to keep the heat in the house around 60F. The space heater ran in my closet like crazy. Very inefficient. If that's what I have to do than I will. Do you guys know the minimum temperature the cakes will fruit decently.
Thanks again guys
Also I heard Malabar, in a previous post, say that slower growing fruits in a cooler temp are more potent. Is this true??
