Title: Freezing instead of drying?
Post by: chains on May 06, 2010, 06:42:03 AM
Hey dudes, i was just wondering has anyone tried freezing there crop to preserve them instead of drying? And will it work?
I read that when you dry most of the psilocin content is lost with mainly psilocybin left over. My thinking is if i freeze them i get too keep all the yummy goodness for myself with little loss
What you reckon guys

They should be dried at temps lower than 106 F. That is where alkaloids will start to break down. You'll loose very little. I have a dehydrator that has a temp setting, lowest is 95 F. Another great way is to get some desiccant in a sealable container. Place your shrooms in a free tyvek mailer envelope and place on top of the desiccant in the container, close lid, put in fridge. They will dry out great and will have no thermal breakdown.

Don't leave them wet. That will most likely just cause you problems.

dont freeze em, the expanding water will destroy the cell walls, and when you thaw them your left with a nasty mash of nastiness, made this mistake myself, wont do it again.
