I have a non adjustable dehydrator too. I don't plug it in. I just put the shrooms in and set it on top of a turbo fan. I let it run for a couple days 'till the little ones are nice and dry.

I've done cakes and had pretty good results. All you need is a big pot and a stove. If you want to do grains you need a PC. No way around that. I saw a 22qt Presto with a gauge at the Goodwill in Cookeville TN for $29. Flea markets, Goodwill, thrift stores or buy new...you need a pc to do grains. You will end up with a huge bag of shrooms that you don't know what to do with! You can grow plenty of shrooms for your own head with PF cakes!

I have read an lc tek that says use an old syringe (plunger removed) stuffed with polyfil for gas exchange.
First is gas exchange needed
Second how do you guys do it?

You could just dunk them in water for 12-24 hrs. Then roll them in dry verm that has been baked on a cookie sheet for a hour at 300 then cooled. To dunk them,I have put mine in throw away plastic containers with lids. Fill the containers up with water (I used tap water) drop in a cake and put on the lid. Make sure there is not much air in the container. Once you roll them in verm put them in the chamber and mist them. You want to get the verm as wet as you can without washing it away. Do this a couple times over the next two hours or so and then let them be. Good luck!

If the white stuff doesn't turn green in a day or two it's probably not trich. Hygrometers say in the instructions they are accurate to +/- 5% my hygro in my fc reads 99% all the time too. The first time I ventured from the PF Tek I asked the exact same questions. Baph and PW told me to hold on, be patient, a week in the fc is not long. I think your casing looks fine. Give it another week. If the white stuff turns green get rid of it fast!

Are you sure that hygrometer is working? It looks real similar to one I had that got stuck on 98% after about 2 days. Those trays look OK to me.

Thanks Baph. I guess I couldn't wait so I tried 100% verm right out of the bag. I will let you know how it goes. Also the grain I used was fully colonized for almost a month. I just didn't get around to it "till now. Oh well I guess I can hope for the best.

Of course, being an old hippie, I have a high level of experience and wouldn't recommend this dose for a newbie.

Is it that small bright white spot in the upper right corner? I think trich is white before it turns green, am I right?
