All I ever clean off of mine is the casing mix that adheres to the base of the stem. After they are dry of coarse.

In the past during warmer weather I have covered them with soil in my backyard under a cypress tree with fairly good results. During the winter I usually just toss them in my compost bin.

Never heard of anything like that. I always just placed them on a piece of foil on top of the perlite in my FC.

After progressing to grains I like working with them better. More yield and faster results, plus you can do G2G transfers and increase the amount of out put from just one spore syringe, print,Etc.

You could just wipe them down with 91% alcohol. It is cheap and very effective.

You would probably be safer leaving the lids on IMO. The verm is a barrier layer to reduce the chances of contamination, but the jar lid will add an extra amount of protection. The holes in the lids are only supposed to be big enough for inoculation any way. You do not have the gas exchange concerns with BRF cakes that come up when colonizing on grain. The pieces of rice in your mix look to be a little coarse. Next time try to grind it up finer. I use a coffee grinder. As for the moisture content issue I can't tell from your photo, but your mix may have been too wet. I never had any condensation (moisture) issues with the jars that I have made in the past. I hope this helps you get started.

Welcome to the forum. My advice would be to study the TEKS as much as possible, use the search function, and ask questions after you have attempted the first two suggestions. There are many people here that will help but most of us do not have time to do your research for you. If you follow the TEKs and don't try and reinvent the wheel you will be successful. Good luck!!

Cultivation / Re: Question about casings and flushes

After the first flush I have been filling my pans with water and letting them soak for about twenty minutes. I then drain them and return them to the FC. This seems to work well for me.

LMFAO Vandal. But on a more serious note Why would anyone squirt fungus water into their eye? Seems that some people have just enough smarts to do themselves harm. i sure hope that they haven't done anything that will cause permanent damage. Your eyesight seems to be a fairly handy sense to have.

Go with the Max. strength alcohol as shroomzer has suggested. It is cheap, works very well and won't ruin anything if you spill it.

They have shown up from time to time the last year or so. Anno will notice after awhile and get rid of them. It's hard to do but just keep ignoring them.

Sounds like that will work. There are many ways to do this and your idea will help someone else out also, I am sure.

All I ever used with BRF cakes was micropore tape over the four holes in the lid. My half pint jars generally took three to four weeks to fully colonize after I spotted the first signs of growth.
