Title: Right amount of water
Post by: Yungloc on May 20, 2009, 04:39:06 PM
how can you tell if your jar has to much water in
it after you PC the jars and what would happen if
there was a little extra water in the jar?

If there is excess water in your jars your  spores will drown .. LOL~!  I have had water seep into my jars while in the PC and made the sub look soggy - I inoculated them anyways and nothing happened and ended up tossing the jars.  But that is what happened to me.  Maybe someone else has done that, with success, but for me another learning lesson.

You shouldn't be putting that much water in ur PC, if its from the water in the PC anyway. If not your putting too much in your jars, how do you prepare your grains?

wet grains will lead tos low colinisation and bacterial contamination.

its normal after the PC cycle for you jars to hav a little mositure butif theres pooling its bad.

Before loading your grain into jars, they should not be moist, they should be dry on the outside. All the moisture should be on the inside.

Also remembe to raise you jars out of the water. In a pressure cooker you really dont need much water, a few incehs is plenty.
