hmm......
Am I the only one that notices the topic title?

Topic: Pressure cooker time for PF tek?

I see everyone answering the question but ignoring the fact that you don't need to PC PF TEK.  ;)

If you want to PC something start using grains , better yeilds and just all around better than cakes.

"Don't own a hygrometer, so can't really tell the RH. "

Get one asap,it is mandatory , or all the work and time you've invested will be for nothing.

"The cakes sit directly on the perlite..."

Get them off the perlite.
Use a lid from the jar or foil. Bend the foil to where it will not puddle.

Don't let your excitement be your downfall.  ;)

Trich is a bitch.
You should have heeded the words of the old hands here and anywhere else you've gotten advice from.
You'll have to clean your whole house now , and even then that might not do it.
Once you leave contam'd trays/cakes in your house your whole house becomes contam'd.

Take IAFs advice and clean , clean , clean.

They can last for a long time.
I've had them still be good after 5 years.

" i'm not planning using the whole thing for trial and error purposes."

Good luck with that.
There will be jars go bad while others won't , it's the nature of the hobby.
I suggest you read all about the TEK you are gonna use.
Once your done with all that reading , read it all again and again and again.
Trial and error is how you get good at this hobby bud. ;)

PF - Tek / Re: Humidity/Moisture levels
April 07, 2010, 08:28:49 AM
"I am unsure of humidity levels and the frequency of watering required by the cakes once they have been rinsed and rolled and put on the perlite in the terrarium."

1. RH should be at 95 - 99% , RH = Relative Humidity ;)
2. Fan your cakes 2 - 3 times a day
3. You don't water the cakes , you mist the cakes. You mist after each time you Fan your tubs.
4. Do Not put cakes directly on perlite use a mason jar lid.

The perlite if done right will last through the whole fruiting process.
There are many opinions on best/optimal temp but , the best temps I found that work best is room temp in your house. 68 - 73 degrees.
I keep my grows at 70 from the begining to end.

Australia #
Psilocine and psilocybine are illegal to possess or sell under the Criminal Code Act of 1995 (CCA). We have received a report that harvested psilocybin-containing mushrooms are considered illegal "preperations" throughout Australia, and growing psilocybin mushrooms consitutes "manufacturing illegal drugs" and carries even higher penalties. (thanks Torsten) The mushrooms themselves are subject to specific controls in some states or territories.

"Any plant of the genus Psilocybe" is restricted under the "Border controlled plant" provisions of the CCA (see section 314.5 of the Criminal Code). This makes Psilocbye mushrooms illegal to import and export, and illegal to possess if they have been imported. We have received an unconfirmed report that it is possible to import or export of psilocybin mushroom spore prints for purposes of microscopy, though this technically may be a violation of the CCA (thanks A Moffett). (updated Apr 2008)

Source <---- It's in the International Law section.

And there's this.
Oz land law

That ought to give you a better idea if its legal or not.

"haha why? i smelled it too.."

If you opened that in your house there is a good possibility you just fucked all your future grows.

If you feel something like a cold coming on , ie, stuffy nose , runny nose , sore throat , etc.... typical cold /allergy symptoms ,
thats from sticking your nose in it and smelling it.

As for the rest.......
1. Don't put jars by the radiator.
2. PF-Tek requires a verm layer at the top.

Let your jars incubate at room temp.
70 degrees or 21C , you don't need much more heat than that simply because as the Myc grows it produces it's own heat.
The hotter your jars are the more likelyhood contam will set in.
Contams thrive at higher temps.

If you didn't know about adding a verm layer I suggest you read more on the tek you have choose to use.
Here is one that is proven for beginners.

All of those can be started in a LC.
All of them are relatively easy to grow.
Puerto Ricans are somewhat stubborn to pin but persistance and patience will pay off.  :)

If nothing came off with the paper towel then you are seeing bruising.
Your cakes are safe.
The temps you stated are not a issue.
Instead of using paper towel use a Q-tip , it works better.

Strain is irrelavent in the cubensis world so it doesn't really matter what Cube strain you use.

Did you case your grow bag?  if not , that's the reason why you didn't get the yeild you wanted.
I suggest you case what ever sub you use in your next venture.

"Is it possible that the myc never comes to the stage where it is ready for fruiting?"

It is highly unlikely.
If the bottom of the jars are not colonizing , flip the jars over.

I've seen cakes take up to 1 month to produce fruit.
Stalled jars normally are caused by bad substrate prep. ie, not enough water/to much water, insufficent steam steralization, wrong mix , etc......
