Ok everyone, sorry that this is not over the topic of mushrooms but I feel that it is very important that I spread the word incase you have not already heard and yes it pertains to smokers:

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have ordered these and want to try them, however, OUR GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO STOP THE SALE OF THESE (e-cigs) IN the United States. I guess it will interfere with the new taxes on tobacco, and putting more money in the tobacco companies pockets along with the medical profession. At the end of this is a webpage address for the petition, if after reading this you think the government should stay out of it then please go to the website and sign, and then PLEASE REPOST THIS ON YOUR MYSPACE SO MORE PEOPLE WILL BE INFORMED whether you are a smoker or not it is beneficial to all of us, but you be the judge and decide AFTER reading ALL of this.

A Regular Cigarette

Various scientific research has shown that cigarette smoke contains approximately 4,800 chemical substances & compounds, many of which are harmful to the human body, with 25 diseases directly related to smoking. The carbon monoxide, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and nitrosamine in cigarette smoke are considered the most dangerous carcinogenic substances.

Second-hand or passive smoking has allegedly caused serious health issues for men, women and children. Many countries have already or will soon be banning smoking in public places. A ban came into force in the UK on 1st July 2007.

The Electronic Cigarette is the result of research and development of a non-flammable cigarette substitute. You can use the Electronic Cigarette for many purposes and you can enjoy your pleasure in a healthier manner.

It has been found that there are approximately 4,800 chemicals in regular cigarettes and in the smoke they produce. Out of those 4,800 chemicals, 43 have been specifically identified to cause cancer.

Below is a list of 20 ingredients (out of 4,800!) of regular cigarettes.
Each of these is described alongside:-

Acetone: One of the active ingredients in nail polish remover.

Ammonia: A caustic agent used in fertilisers and household cleaners. Is added to enhance the flavour of a cigarette, but also helps the smoker to absorb more nicotine thereby enhancing addiction.

Arsenic: Makes your lips burn and is responsible for giving you bad breath.

Benzopyrene: One of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals in the world. Found in coal tar and cigarette smoke.

Benzene: An industrial chemical and a constituent of gasoline. It is a group 1 carcinogen and is responsible for causing leukemia and aplitic anemia.

Butane: A key component of gasoline, it's highly flammable.

Carbon Monoxide: A colourless, odourless gas, which starves the body of existing oxygen.

Cadmium: Used in batteries and oil paint. It is a group 1 carcinogen. It damages the liver, kidneys, and brain and remains in the body for years (>10 years). Is also excreted in the breast milk of nursing mothers.

Formaldehyde: Used in embalming (preserving tissue). Causes cancer and damages the lung, skin, and digestive tract.

Hydrogen Cyanide: A colourless poisonous gas. Short-term exposure causes headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Lead: Of the heavy metal group. Stunts growth and damages the brain, kidneys and nervous system. Lead is more easily absorbed in the growing bodies so children are particularly vulnerable.
Exposure in children can result in development delays, lower IQ levels, shortened attention spans and increased behavioural problems

Methoprene: An insecticide used to kill fleas on your pets.

Mercury: A heavy metal, affects the central nervous system. Exposure causes tremors, memory loss and kidney disease.

Nickel: A heavy metal, affects the central nervous system. Exposure causes increased susceptibility to respiratory infections.

Nitric oxide: Produces short-term effects on airway activity. High concentrations can lead to acute lung dysfunction.

Phenol: Used in disinfectants and plastic. Exposure causes skin, eye, and mucus membrane irritation.

Polonium: A cancer causing radioactive element.

Styrene: Found in insulation material. Causes headaches, fatigue, weakness, and depression.

Toluene: Embalmers glue, which is a central nervous system depressant. Exposure causes ataxia, tremors, cerebral atrophy, nystagmus, impaired speech, hearing and vision, headaches, dizziness and difficulty sleeping.

Turpentine: A toxic chemical used in paint stripper

The intelliCIG

Here is a list of the main ingredients (over 90%) of an intelliCIG cartridge:-

PROPYLENE GLYCOL (Approx 50%) which is an odourless and colourless viscous liquid, Propylene glycol is commonly used in food, cosmetics and medicines and as a food colouring and flavouring. It is also present in regular cigarettes used to maintain a dampness in the tobacco.

GLYCEROL (Approx 8%) occurs naturally in the human body and is made during the hydrolysis of vegetable or animal fat or oil. It is used extensively in mouthwash, toothpaste, medecines and in nutritional products.

PURE WATER (Approx 18%) this needs little explanation!

VANILLA (<5%) Comes from the plant 'Vanilla planifolia' which is used extensively in foods and scents.

MENTHOL ( Approx 4%) is used extensively in sweets, chewing gum, and many other common use products.

LINALOOL is a tertiary alcohol and has a pleasant, rose smelling scent. It is used largely as a raw material in the production of Vitamin E. It is used often as a fragrance and flavour.

It should be noted that any long term effects of propylene glycol being inhaled (and for that matter the other few ingredients in an intelliCIG) are unanswered at this time. What is known and certain is that regular cigarettes are certainly known without doubt to stand a good chance of causing one of many diseases many of which can be fatal.

I think if you have read the above you can answer yourself any questions or uncertainties you may have regarding the intelliCIG. I feel certain that when a comparison is made of the intelliCIG to a regular cigarette it is the intelliCIG that wins on every count and is a far far safer option.

How it Works

How Does the intelliCIG Work?

The intelliCIG comprises three parts:

battery/microelectronics

vaporiser device

mouthpiece/cartridge

When you inhale through the mouthpiece a sensitive micro pressure switch activates the rechargeable battery and micro-electronics which immediately causes the vapour device to vaporise a tiny drop of the cartridge liquid. The vapour contains vaporised nicotine within the 'mist' which inturn is delivered straight to the blood stream via the lungs giving you that instant 'smokers fix' and a relief from cigarette craving.

IntelliCIG is the only electronic cigarette in Europe to be supplied 'READY to USE' No need for you to charge 8-12 Hours first! which is very inconvenient when you are wanting to use it straight out of the box. We take extra effort during manufacture to prepare the battery and fully charge it.

There are other distributors of the electronic cigarettes so I am not plugging one brand.

Do you have any Myc yet?  It took mine about a month to start to REALLY colonize and that was in an incubator heated to between 75 and 85 degrees because it fluctuates.

Your fine,    oh man that sux bigtime!!  I just came to the conclusion that the syringe would melt under the intense heat but had absolutely no idea that the heat would also kill them.  How long ago did you inoculate your jars?

General topics / Vacuum Sealing for Storage
January 10, 2009, 08:06:23 AM
I was wondering if once the mushrooms are dry if you vaccuum seal them for storage, will they last longer than if you just put them in a plastic baggie?

Yeah thats what I thought I would have to do. Its okay though.  Thanks Baph!!!!

I am starting a rye grain substrate for the first time and when I sterilized my 1 pint kerr jars in the pressure cooker for 90 minutes I looked at the bottom and it looks kind of mushy.  Anyway I inoculated the jars with a very small part of a spore print that I put in water and inoculated the jars with that. My question is can you use too few spores and the jars not colonize?
