Title: Early Pinning.
Post by: MoGrow on November 18, 2012, 03:40:56 PM
Hello again, I started this grow 22 days ago and have a question about a jar I've got.

im guessing this is a pin ?
for my main question.

this jar is only about 85% colonized.

did i do something wrong ? does this happen often ? will this cake be ok at birthing time?.. i mean its got at least 3 days to colonize 100% then 7 days to consolidate. how does this affect my time line ?
Or is this not a pin but something else?

Thx in advance for any replies.

Hey Now,
What you have in those jars are in vitro pinning. I've had this happen to myself and all turned out OK. You gotta get those cakes outta that jar though. If they are 100% colonized you can introduce light now and put them in your SG Terr. (I think you mentioned to me before thats what you were gonna do). Or if you were going to do the Monotub (recommended), this cake can be cut up under sterile conditions, and put into grain jars. When my GT BRF's stalled out and started in vitro, I introduced them to grain and the myc really took off in there!
That third pic... If it's been like that for a while it may have stalled out. When I had this happen, a member from here suggested I could inject 1cc of H2O in the jar to rehydrate. I did however take the lid off before hand thinking it was a FAE issue, so I was then advised against the H2O injection because I would probably push contams into the jar. What I did was the same as above; cut up the cake, divided it between 12 jars of rye berries, put it back in darkness, and I think I had total colonization in like 5 or 6 days.
Let us know how it turns out! ^_^

This is the side shot of the same jar. its one of the 2 with cottony myc growth you can see the ryzo from the 2 outside innoc spots moving around it to box it in as the other jar did about 5 days ago and has moved down to the bottom of the jar.. it hasent stalled. its still gtrowing strong.

This is a shot of the other jar that has cottony myc growing in it.

as you can kinda see 1/2 way down the jar they met around the cottony myc and headed south and are doing great

This is a shot of my most colonized jar just to give you an idea where im at.

as you can see in the following pic its slow where its moving around the cotton.

So 3rd pic down is the in vitro jar?

nah .. 1 and 4 has the pin.

3 was just a reference to show how far along the farthest jar is in comparison to the one with the invitro. but all 7 are between 90% (pics 1 and 4) and 99% (pic #3)

Ya, they're stalled out I guess. You could get 1cc of H2O in there like I mentioned; and put it back in darkness. My concern is that with the in vitro pins, that is like the myc saying its time to go into fruit mode. Like I said, I've saved mine with grains when this happened but If you cant do the grain method right now, you could stick em in the SG and start the fruiting. From my own experience with this happening - you may get like 2 flushes, but since these cake aren't 100% colonized, contams can take over. I myself had 2 flushes, then green mold grew with what would have been a third.
Good luck! Keep us updated!
