Cultivation / nuetrience in popcorn
April 22, 2011, 03:28:23 PM
gonna do my first popcorn jars for a casing. I was reading that fruits from popcorn can be weak from lack of neutrience. Can I mix in some BRF to help that out?

Hey guys, I finally got a pressure cooker, for free, from my town mall(the dump swap shop). It is small, but it is pretty much brand new. Want to up my tek from the BRF cakes I have been doing because I hear the yeild is better. What is everone's favorite substrates and teks to use with a pressure cooker? Thanks as always everyone.

Cultivation / Casing
April 06, 2011, 12:36:22 PM
Just did my first casing with a crumbled up 1pint brf cake and a layer of straight verm at feild capacity on top. I have noticed a vast array of different casing layer recipes. Is vermiculite a good enough layer on it's own? I had a great pinset for my first attempt at a casing, but I think I had too much moisture and the fruits dried up to be very light. Any suggesstions?

PF - Tek / What's wrong (Pics)
March 25, 2011, 04:36:12 AM
Hey guys been doing cakes for the last year or so and finally crushed up a 1pint cake, put it in a pan and coveredit with about a 1-1 1/2" layer of vermiculite at feild capacity. Now They have been in natural indirect sunlight at about 70F. I mist and fan 2-3 times per day. I am happy with the yeild for my first attempt, but any ideas why they are all laying down? Too much watering?
Here is a good looking cake from the same spore print.

Now here is the casing

Cultivation / temps for casing
October 10, 2010, 05:43:53 PM
Hey guys... still stuck in the old pftek cake rut. hoping to switch to grains soon. Anyways I want to try crumbling a couple cakes and casing them. I know that after casing you need to let the deal setup in the dark for a few days till you can see a little mycylium poking through. I will brush up on my tek before I try it. But I need to know if I need to have a good 75F to incubate my casing or will 60-65 be okay. I ask only bcause I havent set up my warming device in my incubation chamber and I keep my house fairly cool in the winter to save loot. If this is too cold I will just set up my fishtank heater setup. Little input please!! Thanks guys!

PF - Tek / One more in the long list of questions
June 03, 2010, 04:19:37 PM
Hey guysI have two questions
1...
I have 8 BRF jars in a box in a dark closet wrapped in a towel. One of them is fruiting invetro like crazy. The rest have no fruits or even pins. What may cause this one jar to start fruiting at 80+% colonization??

2...
When I birth and soak I will pull these fruits off, are they good for munching with the same or simmilar potantcy to a regular fruit??

A little more info.... All jars were multispore innocs. of a strain I have grown before stored between 70 and 80F
Thanks guys!

PF - Tek / 1st flush VS 2nd flush
April 07, 2010, 12:46:12 PM
Just curious, my first flush took about 16 days for a nice pinset. Should I expect a faster pinset on my second/ 3rd flush?

PF - Tek / Check it out. PICS
March 31, 2010, 12:24:18 PM
Hey guys check it out. These guys are about to be plucked. The humidity got low one day when I was gone so I think the growth was a bit stunted, but I'm soooooo happy. Thanks to all you guys for the support and knowhow. I think I'm gonna pluck the big section and let the rest grow more. My other 3 cakes in my FC withthis one are growing about the same as the rest of the pins on this cake so I will pluck the big section, wait for the rest to catch up and the harvest and prepare for my next flush. THANKS GUYS!!! FIRST GROW RIPS!!!!

PF - Tek / harvesting ?
March 31, 2010, 06:06:18 AM
My first batch of cakes have a few fruits on them that are ready for harvest, but tons of other little guys. The new pins far outnumber the fruits that are ready to pick. Can I just pick the ones that are ready and wait for my pins to develop, then dunk for the next flush?

PF - Tek / 3days of growth with pics
March 29, 2010, 03:58:39 PM
Sorry to keep asking for support, but I'm just wondering if my growth rate is okay or if I'm having issues. The first pic is 3 days before the second. temp 70F RH-96+ fan and mist 5-6 times a day. (real dry here, hard to keep RH up without misting and fanning for FAE.
okay... first pic

3 days later

Haha one has a split head... looks like my tiny ----.. i mean....uh...
The first pic is a little more closeup than the second, but you can see that the mushies are developing. Basically just asking if all looks well because a few of you saw my first pic and thought I would be harvesting within seven days of that pic and the growths are still pretty small. Also, is there a stage in which the fruit will shoot up exponentially? Thanks guys.

PF - Tek / Fruit bodies VS. Aborts
March 29, 2010, 08:32:03 AM

I'll also try to update some pics of my first grow tonight so I can get a little feedback from yous guys. Thanks for all your help. You guys have made this soooooo easy.!

PF - Tek / Need a little info...pics!
March 26, 2010, 02:11:29 PM
Hey guys, my first attempt at a grow is showing some growth. I'm not sure what stage I'm at and if these are pins or actaul mushrooms. Not sure at what point the change from pins to mushrooms is. Also, if I had a cake with mushrooms that are mature and ones that are in early growth stage, when should I pick everything and dunk for my second flush?
Close up shot of cake #1

Little shroom on cake #1

Same as the first picture

Thanks guys. Looking foward to your help!! Hopefully I can put these in the photo contest!

PF - Tek / What is this? and where are my fruits?
March 21, 2010, 11:59:11 AM
Hey guys, I've had my boys in the FC at 95-99%RH 10-12 hrs of indirect sunlight with two small holes and fanning 4-5 times a day for FAE and some misting to keep RH up. Temp is 65-70F. I'm getting a ball on one of my cakes that looks like it wants to be a mushroom, but it's just a ball and it's growing fast. The cake looks healthy and smells great. The BRF cakes have been in my FC for 8 days now and the growth started on day 6. How can I fix this? What might be the problem? Thanks guys. Also, not fruits on my other two cakes yet.

PF - Tek / Take a look...Thoughts?
March 19, 2010, 05:42:49 PM
So I've had these guys in my FC for 6 days now. I have 7 more that will be ready to fruit in about 8 days. Just worndering how they are looking. temp is right around 70f and the RH is 95-99% and about 10-11 hours indirect sunlight a day. I have a couple holes in my FC for FAE and I fan and mist about 3 times a day.
The sides of my FC transmit alot of light, but the top is solid. It looks like there is pleanty of light hitting the cakes, not sure if thats enough. Thanks guys. Do they look okay? Also how much longer do you think till I see pins?

PF - Tek / BRF Cake fruiting temp and time
March 12, 2010, 02:41:09 PM
Going to put 3 BRF pint size cakes into my FC tomorrow. The easiest temp for me to have them at is about 65-69F. I should be able to maintain 97-99% humidity and I'll have almost exactly 12 hours of indirect sunlight a day. What are some common fruiting times for BRF cakes? and is my temp going to be alright or should I up it? Thanks guy, I'll be shure to show some pics as soon as I have some action.

PF - Tek / One week after full colonization
March 12, 2010, 07:00:53 AM
So I have 10 1 pint jars of BRF anywhere from 90% to 99+% colonization. They have been colonizing for about a month. The areas that started to colonize first are now contracted away from the walls of the jar. They look like they are shrinking and fuzzing up a bit. I was thinking that that part of the cake is ready to fruit. I have read that the mycelium takes about a week to consolidate and digest the substrate. about 3/4 of all my cakes are shrunk down and starting to get fuzzy. DO you think I could take a couple of my cakes and brush off the TINY bit of un-colonized BRF and try to fruit? I know I should wait, but my bro is gonna be in town in a couple weeks and I wanna make sure I have a little bit for the rare occasion he is in the country. Thanks guys.

PF - Tek / Dunknrolldunknrolldunknroll
February 25, 2010, 04:58:13 PM
So I know that after birthing my BRF cakes, I should dunk in cold water for 12-24 hours in cold water and roll em in some dry verm. After reading many other posts I have concluded that it is best to dunk and roll after every flush as to moisten them up for the next flush. I was looking for someone with experience as to how long to dunk them after the first flush. Also, what might be some pros and cons to dunking them longer or shorter.
Hope to have my first 4 Pints ready to birth in 2 weeks or less. Colonizing fast, but not fast enough.. ha ha it's never fast enough is it?
Thanks guys
