Oh and if the shrooms are small, cap bust is due to low humidity!

Yes more heat is needed!

The 21° is absolute so it includes the growth heat. Say your room is @ 18° and inside the incubator is 21°, thats fine!

a little air is needed. I have holes in my jars.

Where is a pic.

Yep they bust open on the top. Time to harvest my friend.

Did you let air into you jars?

Air can speed things up. Open one injection hole. Maybe your substrate wasn't good enoufg for the myc to grow.

Don't use perlite.

You can keep humidity high by spraying or for convenience use a climatic terrarium control with a mist maker.

PF - Tek / Re: Colonization slow due to coffee & malt?

The answer for you guys is no, coffe didn't slow it down, neither did malt. One worked, the spores were just a little old and i had contam too.

looool, its a mushroom cake not your ordinary Oreos LOL

What shrooms do you grow? :D

Casing works with the method too but if you do casing, a plastic bag as a small "terrarium" for high humidity works as well. The Method is BRF cakes usually, yes. You place the cakes into the fruiting chamber.

What was not working with the casing? Use brown rice flour!

Honestly I don't know. If you see mold, toss them. If its just the smell... see if it will grow shrooms. On a well colonized cake, other spores usually have no place to "hatch" so you should be fine...

2-3 like always, casing just helps to get more surface, thus higher yield.

Harvest, eat oO

You're suppose to EAT your shrooms man. If you can't eat them all, dry them and put them away to EAT them later :D

Jesuz what a waste of energy and money!!! May I ask how much this Mycodome was?

Ok well... For incubation you can very well just use a styrofoam box like this:

In a normal room, this will be more than enough for incubation / colonization. I bought one on ebay for like 5 bucks or so. Temp is around 23°, and rising once colonization commences, since this produces heat itself.

For the purpose of fruiting, a large plastic box like this will do:

Drill holes into it to allow airing. Put tape on it if you don't want to air the cakes. Easy as that.
Buy a hygrometer to control humidity and a thermometer to control temperature. If you feel temperature is not high enough (although in the fruiting phase only 20-22° is needed), buy a heat mat for terrariums to increase temperature.

I did buy a mist maker, a heat mat and a climatic control. But that's just because I want to be able to ensure 100 % perfect and automated environment to maximse yield.
If you feel you don't get enough shrooms our of the box... buy another one and repeat...

What the hell is a tote?

Of course verm is stick when wet, especially with flour around it.

Bad smell is a bad sign to be honest.

How did you go about, when you came back from your vacation? Tell us exactly what you did.

How are you making sure, that the cakes don't get water droplets when you spray them to keep high humidity. Are they standing in water? Tell us your setup.

Well rice is rice is rice is rice ;-)

I doubt that the shrooms go like: "Uh, oh he didn't buy it in a bio-store! Screw him I'm outta here! Nah, I'm a fancy shroom, no industry rice for me!"

I is possible, that the organic and untreated rice holds more substance for growth but really I don't think shrooms are much of a gourmet ;-)

Try it! If you're a newbie, you need to fail because that's how you learn. And maybe you don't fail but you start learning how to optimize.

Good luck, tell us how it evolves, ask more questions, BE PATIENT!!! and stay on track.

PF - Tek / Colonization slow due to coffee & malt?
September 10, 2011, 12:39:27 AM
Hi all,

reinitiated my growing. Got a couple of ? I'd like to ask ya.

  • I used a coffee grinder to produce rice flour and there was still some coffee left. Can this destroy or halt colonization?
  • I added malt to the substrate because I had some left for colonization on petri dishes, where it is used to produce the agga substrate. Do you think this might slow / halt the colonization?
  • The spore syringes are more than a year old and I used destilled water to produce them. Could the spores be too old? Can destilled water slow / halt the colonization?
  • I might have put to much water with the syringes into the substrate jars. Can this cause problems?

I'm 5 days after inocculation now and nothing happens. I just started airing through opening the inocculation holes, maybe that also slowed colonization?

Thx in advance for the answers.
