Cultivation / Bottom Layer For Casing
March 05, 2008, 04:34:31 PM
I have been using a thin layer of moist verm under my crumbled substrate the last couple of years, thinking of trying without any. I like using those small aluminum loaf pans, crumble cakes into small hunks, then case just to cover well.

My inquiry is do any of you "not use" a bottom layer, or do any of you use the actual casing mix for a bottom layer. Any feedback o experience, especially if tried both ways, results and opinions.

Much appreciated,

THX for the input WORMY!!

Stay cool and don't wait so long to visit!

ltr,
p4p

I'm around off and on alot, especially the forums now since I found them.

I'm an old skool grower, just that I stuk with 1 method over the years, it worked. So now I'm venturing out into new things (bored with the old way).

My basic way was pf style cakes but using whole rice, quinoa, and verm (it's tricky to get water right), then case them, perlite terrarium.

Has worked for years, now I want to do rye jars (get more spawn, easier), still case, may try poo eventually. Also want to get into cloning and isolation (= bigger more even harvests) instead of multispore inoculations.

My background at a glance.

I have that RR DVD set, and there is a ton of step-by-steps covering straw, poo, cakes, casing, etc. I think you would like it. But nothing is better than researching and going through the teks online, it just can be confusing at times weeding through all the different styles.

I keep thinking of the grows I have seen where they just fill the bottom of a large tub and use the tub as a terrarium. Those seemed to go well, the ones I seen pics of, and those were probably like a foot down from the top.

Thanks for the reply Anno.

Have you ever inoculated with a syringe through the polyfill? Or do you add a seperate injection hole? Or just take the lid off, inject using flowhood? I know you do grain to grain and agar usually, but curious if you ever tried with syringe.

I appreciate the feedback.

Cultivation / New Here & Q For Anno
August 02, 2007, 04:47:19 PM
Hi, lurked this site off and on for a few years now, checking it occasionally after it first went up. Just realized there is now a forum. Nice looking site.

My question to Anno is about the Tyvek test where he uses it compared to polyfill :

Did you (Anno) use 1 layer of Tyvek?

And you say reduce the size of the lid opening to a 1/2 inch hole?

I wasnt sure if you meant 1/2 inch smaller than the cutout lids you used, or 1/2 inch hole.

Any feedback appreciated.
